Why is it that static devices don't have USB hubs (or at least one down-stream port) built in?
My keyboard sits on my desk all day long, doesn't really move much, takes up a USB port on the 'puter, and gives back nothing. I'd willingly pay $5 extra if it had a row of USB ports across the back.
My external HD sits on top of my machine, reads & writes, rarely moves, takes up a USB port, but doesn't give one back. Why not? It's even powered and could put some juice into the system.
Wasn't the whole point of USB that you could daisy-chain up to 127 of them? How come nothing's daisy-chainable? Sure, one cord hanging off the back of my mouse is annoying, I certainly don't want two, nor do I expect 'em on cameras or MP3 players, but why can't keyboards, hard drives & printers serve as hubs, as well?
@MinskyBA: So there is a row of humping dogs at the bottom that spans 5 columns of other humping dogs and rarely moves, but when one whole column of dogs stops humping this bottom row kicks in and starts humping for it? Trying to figure out out RAID would work for non-storage devices.
I just bought a one outlet one of these for my mom so she can charge her GPS, as she doesn't leave her computer on when she's not using it. Thankfully I'm adopted, so she's not my "real" mom. My "real" mom probably leaves 5 cpus running 24/7, like I do.
me and my buddies realized suddenly the other day that his one bedroom apartment has no less than 6 displays (3 computers, xbox and 3 tvs) going most of the time, all displaying different shit, when at most there are 4 people there simultaneously.
@nutbastard (Everyone come to snowmodo!!!): On a much lessor scale, back in college, we had two computers, and four T.V.s in our two person dorm room. We had an old school Atari and NES original hooked up to two of the screens, and a PS1 and Super Nintendo on the others.
More game nerds than computer nerds, but that was still at a time where most people didn't have internet connections unless they were compsci majors, or had a lot of money to burn.
On point, I like the thing above, as that would be nice for traveling, when I don't want to break out the laptop to charge everything.
@zenpoet: Um, why didn't you just hook all of the consoles to one TV? Granted, you might have to swap out cords, since the TV most likely only had one set of inputs, but you would have saved a hell of a lot of space, wouldn't you? Granted, this is coming from someone who uses his MacBook display for everything, including TV thanks to the university's IPTV system.
@toejam07: Uh, because we wanted to be able to play all the systems at the same time. Have some people over, and some could play Killer Instinct, others could play Asteroids, and well, Madden on the NES was the best. Oh, I forgot that the TG-16 was also hooked up to one of the tvs, but I think it was on the Atari TV.
