You want a good director, how bout that Phil Tucker. Made "Robot Monster" in 3D in 1953 in 4 days.
Now that's a producer!

Still, I'd have questions about "missing features", things that are taken for granted with true HD filmmaking gear but could be compromised or even missing altogether in this kind of setup.
*Filmmaking trivia: Double system has been the standard for filmmaking for 75+ years. One purpose of the slate used at the start of every take is to help sync sound and image during postproduction: the sharp "clap" sound is lined up with the visual of the slate snapping shut. Now you know.

Oh, I read the last sentence of the article, indie filmmakers, that make sense.

HD only means 1080p, 1080i, or 720p, which are resolutions which all HD cameras shoot at. That said, most studios use the Viper, Genesis, or whatever Sony has now. Those are far better than HD. (Viper is 2K, Genesis is 4k)
However, I've no idea what the specs on these SLRs are, but it's likely that their video is highly compressed. That said, some compressions are, in fact, better than others.
