<![CDATA[Hyundai MB400 Phone Looks Like a Bad Apple Fan Concept from 2006]]> Still bitter that Apple didn't use your totally rad theoretical iPhone concept all those years ago? You know, the iPod with Photoshopped phone icons on it? Well, have I got a phone for you!

It's almost hard to believe that the Hyundai MB400 even exists, but it's actually on display at MWC right now. What do we know about it? Practically nothing, except for the fact that it looks like a knockoff iPod classic, makes calls, play music, and has a touchscreen that requires a stylus. Sales, I'm guessing, will be limited to places where patent law doesn't really exist. Release info is nonexistent for the time being, but my guess: the MB400 will soon be available, strictly in trade for food or ammunition, in Guangzhou, Mogadishu, and the internet. [Pocketlint]

<![CDATA[Microsoft Making Ford Sync-like Music, Info System for Hyundai in 2010]]> Hyundai and Microsoft have just agreed for the latter to develop software for the former's cars, shoving in a "music and information system" by the year 2010. No details yet, but from the sound of things it seems like Microsoft's taking advantage of their experience with the Ford Sync system and making voice-control systems to manage stereos and cellphones. The new system is also interesting because it's software-updatable, allowing nerds to bring up that old joke about what would happen if Microsoft built cars. The whole thing is aimed at bringing more young people into Hyundais, something Ford Sync was surprisingly good at doing. [Reuters]

<![CDATA[Hyundai's Slim Bad-Ass Provia A7 GPS Has Gaming, "Navi-In-Picture" TV]]> The Provia A7, developed by Hyundai Telematics, is even more souped-up than its predecessor, the horny-making A1. It starts with a slim 7" 800 x 480 LCD, adds an animated touch interface, then packs in navigation, simultaneous reception of T-DMB TV and TPEG traffic and other data, a removable battery and a freakin' gaming system...with game controller! It's all in the video, with catchy "Mappy" theme song, below.

You can even watch TV while navigating—state and federal law permitting—using NIP, that is, "Navi In Picture." Did I mention it's also got a handsome leather jacket and stylish interchangeable face plates? Trust me, I'm not usually this jazzed about most of the transglobal jetsam that probably won't make it to the US. Somehow, this time, it's different. [Aving.net]

<![CDATA[Hyundai W-100 Wrist Phone Most Feature-Rich Yet, and Now It's Real]]> This Hyundai W-100 Wrist Phone is not the first cellphone in the form factor of a watch, and it's probably not going to be the last, either. Hyundai is apparently marketing this watch we showed you in the form of prototype last summer from Chinese company Cect. That's a lot of tech to pack into a small space, and this is the best looking watch phone we've seen yet, too.

It's equipped with Bluetooth so you can walk around and look like you're talking to yourself, and then you can be sneaky and take some pictures with its 1.3-megapixel onboard camera. It even has an MP3 player, and if your eyes are sharp enough, it plays videos, too.

No pricing info was forthcoming yet, and we're not sure this is going to be available in the US, either, but it's a nice design exercise, and we can expect to see more of these kinds of watches Stateside before too long. [Phonedaily, via Wrist Dreams]

<![CDATA[Hyundai S90D 1ms LCD—Wsup, Gamers?]]> Looking for a badass LCD with no ghosting thanks to a 1ms response time? This may be it. The Hyundai S90D has a 1ms response time, integrated speakers, integrated tv-tuner (!!), 1000:1 contrast ration, 300cd/m3 brightness and native resolution of 1280 x 1024 at 19 inches. Sexy is all I have to say about this. Too bad it isn't widescreen though. No word on pricing or availability, but we'll keep you posted.

<![CDATA[Hyundai Doorcap Smart Lock Uses RFID Cards]]> doorcapsmart_small%5B1%5D.jpgThe Doorcap Smart lock from Hyundai lets you lock your door and throw away the key. However, you'll need one of the six provided RFID passcards to let yourself in.

But wait, there's a hidden number pad to enter your PIN code if you don't happen to have that passcard on you. The Doorcap Smart also functions as an alarm if somebody breaks in, and it re-locks itself if you unlock it and then for some reason don't open the door.

We're thinking that the keypad/PIN would be enough, but maybe the RFID card adds an extra layer of security. So perhaps there is a good use for this RFID stuff after all. Doorcap Smart is available now for $249.

<![CDATA[Perfume Phone Leads Us to Ask Why? Why?]]>

Forget spritzing some scent on your wrists and neck. Obviously, it's much better if your perfume can just be released into the air every time you open your cellphone. Adds a certain, je ne sais quoi, non? Well, it adds something alright. Like a whopping $1200 price tag. I mean, I know many of you have been cursing your stinky RAZR keypads (Behind The RAZR : From Highbrow and Stylin to Smelly and Cheap), but this may be going over the top. The Hyundai MP280, is a clamshell phone with changeable cover panels and a syringe that allows you to add your own perfume to the phone. The company says just about 2 drops of any scent will last about 8 hours. A butterfly is in the center of the phone and marks the spot where you do your injections. Not so sure I'd want my kids playing with a needle filled with alcohol—very Motley Crue—but hey, it's all in good fun right?

Carmakers take Tokyo really seriously these days, using the show to launch their most high-concept and technology-focused prototypes. Automotive Armani, signer Giorgietto Giugiaro celebrates 50 years in the biz with a Ferrari concept; Volkswagen shows a high-mileage diesel-powered roadster; Hyundai spurns the eco-crowd with a crossover-SUV concept that showcases its new V8; Mercedes twirls its propeller cap and comes up green; and Lexus shows off a new all-wheel-drive flagship concept, sporting a V8 hybrid, that will likely show up, as is, in the US.


ferrari_gizmodo.jpgGiorgietto Giugiaro has been designing cars since Ferrari's prancing horse was just a colt. But where most people would celebrate their golden anniversary in the business feasting on all-you-can-eat shrimp, Giugiaro instead designed a Ferrari prototype. The Ferrari GG50 concept is a four-seat coupe built using similar mechanicals as the $250,000 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti - powered by a 540hp V12. If reports are correct, the design will likely inform a new model to replace the company's aging 575M.


vw_gizmodo.jpgVolkswagen's EcoRacer concept is two-seat roadster with a body constructed from strong, lightweight carbon fiber and a new diesel engine boosted by both a turbocharger and a supercharger. The supercharger provides thrust at low revs, the turbo kicks in at higher revs, and the whole 1.4-liter pressure cooker gets around 69 mpg, propelling the EcoRacer from zero to 60 mpg in an entirely respectable 6.3 seconds. Remember the old Rabbit diesel from, oh, around 1979? That was a really long time ago.

Still, despite their incompatible taste in sheetmetal, the two Korean brothers will share a dirty little secret in common — that is, Hyundai's new 4.6-liter V8 engine the company hopes will help it compete in the horsepower-drunk American SUV market.

Well, maybe designers were thinking a little about style, considering Mercedes bid them to design the entire car around its fuel cell.

lexus_gizmodo.jpgLexus unveiled a concept car, the LF-Sh that offers a peek at the replacement for its top-of-the-line LS model in 2007. The Toyota luxury brand is serious about competing with the big boys in the highline market, like the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-Series battleships. So serious, in fact, that the company launched the LF-Sh concept with a new hybrid-drive system that rests its laurels on a big ol' V8 gas engine. Forget about saving the planet; that "h" is really for horsepower.
