Now it's got plain old Western characters and is on sale in the US. It's not quite in the same league as the legendary Optimus Maximus, sure, but with 430 LEDs embedded inside—each fully controllable with some custom software—it actually sounds pretty impressive. Check out the video: it's psychedelic, man. Or, at least, vaguely sci-fi looking anyway.

The software is Windows-only, sadly, and the keyboard comes without a standard numeric keypad. That'll cost you an extra $35, and it doesn't light up. But with the main keyboard costing just $200, it's one eighth the price of Art Lebedev's funky keyboard offering. Available in black or white, with the white model having translucent keys. <![CDATA[Illuminated Keyboard Concept: No More Fumbling Around in the Dark [Peripherals]]]> lit_up_keyboard.jpgKeyboarding in the dark? Forget backlighting the keys—this keyboard design concept by Korean inventor Spike Kwon has a "foldable illuminator" that brings a row of LEDs to bear, lighting the way for those who can't find their way around the keyboard without looking. It's a design concept so far, but this is one badass-looking keyboard.

It vaguely reminds us of that upcoming Microsoft Ultimate Keyboard, except with cool front lighting. Take a look at more pics:

Yes, we know, many of you don't need to look at the keyboard at all, but even good touch typists sometimes need to steal a glance at that top row with the numbers and dollar signs every once in a while. Maybe this idea can be incorporated into notebooks, too, if it doesn't use up too much battery power. There was no word on when this design might be actually implemented in the real world.

<![CDATA[Mac Keyboard Glows For Fun [PCs]]]> ir-6810m.jpg

You never know when you'll want your computer keyboard to glow. So, in case of emergencies, i-rocks has introduced its Mac illuminated keyboard, the X-Slim KR-6810M. Nothing too exciting here except the EL Light on/off switch and LED indicators for numbers lock, caps lock and scroll lock. The keyboard does look all white and pretty and is compatible with Mac OS 10.1 and later as well as Windows 98/ME/2000/XP without driver.
