my only complaint about the wearers are when they wear them in totally inappropriate places-- like funerals and religious ceremonies in a place of worship. Bad form.

I have a Jabra JX10, and I got the extra pack of gels so I don't even need to use the ear loop. It is so light/comfortable that whenever I wear it I literally forget that it is there until my phone rings.

So, make fun of me all you want. I'm not a douche, I'm just not paying very close attention. And how does seeing someone with a BT headset actually affect you that you would automatically label them a douche?

I'm not saying that some percentage of people that wear them aren't douches. But why are people so ready to reinforce a stereotype popularized by John Mayer? Fcuking JOHN MAYER!!??!?!?

frankly I don't get why people love bluetooth so much more than the older wired headsets. OOOOhhh -- it''s so new and wireless!!!!! I love draining my phone's battery faster! I love having another device to forget to charge! I love how it's always dead when I actually need to use it! Really, I'm a bigger gadget guy than most gadget guys, but I just can't relate to the love of all things wireless when (especcially in this case) the advantage is so small compared to the new disadvantages wireless brings.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone else wonder how douche became an insult? Why is douche used instead of calling someone a stinky vagina?

I only use BT in the car (for obvious reasons), and even then not all the time. Some times I do just let the call go to voicemail and anser it later. I don't really care how the headset looks though, just as long as it functions exactly as I need it to.

Let me first say that I do not own one a bluetooth headset.

Next let me say that I will never understand how much these things annoy the people who don't use them. There is nothing "douchey" or "uncool" about them. They are for ease of use, when you need your hands for other things, but still need or want to use your phone. Big deal? So you don't like them? Don't use them, and find something else to talk about.

Would be great if Gizmodo was less self opinionated...

If I just wanted to read dry descriptions of products, I'd stick to CNET product reviews and manufacturer's spec. sheets.

There are multiple problems with taking off your bluetooth.

1. You set it down and lose it.

2. You take it off, get a call, and now have to fuss to put it back on. You say, oh but don't use it on the next call. The problem with that is iPhones like to always go back to bluetooth even when you tell them not to. So you switch to phone, talk for 15 seconds, and then the phone switches back to bluetooth on you. The alternative is just to turn bluetooth off.

3. You put it in your jeans pocket and you may break it. Jawbone ear pieces are made of a brittle metal that likes to break. You can say, well use a jacket pocket. Do you wear a jacket year around?

4. You leave it in the car. Hmm, I found it extremely handily to have both hands while talking to someone when at my computer. Especially if they want to discuss something online, an e-mail they sent me, etc.

The one reason downside to wearing your bluetooth all the time is they often hurt to wear after a while.

@edgan: Well, you could always not get a bluetooth headset, like the Jawbone. Plantronics makes a bluetooth headset that is compliant to Military specs, and can take a pretty heavy beating, I have to say. I've had the headset for a year and a half now, and whenever I'm working outside cutting branches up, I always throw that sucker in my pocket whenever I'm not using it.

Maybe its not the idea of getting the most stylish bluetooth headset, but getting something that is durable, will last a long time, and isn't afraid to get abused every now and then.

A chainsaw is the perfect style accessory, clip it to your tool belt and you will be the envy of all who gaze upon your rugged good looks, they will know right away who to call for when that tree next to the Denny's parking lot entrance falls and blocks their way...

I Agree; Bluetooth headsets look silly, and make the wearer look silly to the people around him/her. Unfortunately, the law now requires them (or wired headset/mics) for use while driving. Dozens of people I know have been pulled over and issued tickets for using their phone while driving.

@BeautifulAgony: I don't think the post is aimed at wearing them at times when you actually need to. It's aimed at people who wear them wanderign around the mall as an accessory with the excuse that they're expecting a call.
