I got something like that but made by belkin. Barely sticking out and a major pain to get out.
Got it at the Apple Store for a 3gs.

I like this, but on my car, if you push some charges in too far, it shorts out the lighters and pops the fuse because the terminals on the shaft are too close.

I want really badly but I don't have any ciggerette outlets in my car. I only have 12v accessory outlets... would this still work?

cigarette outlet = 12v accessory plug.

they are one and the same.

@nutbastard: Except the cigarette outlet comes with a heating coil used to, you know, light cigarettes. The 12v plug comes empty. I can see how someone on the young side might get confused.

no, the cigarette PLUG has coils in it. the OUTLETS are all identical.

@nutbastard: Right...what I'm saying is that newer cars have the outlets but not the plugs (that's what I meant when I called it the heating coil). So someone too young to remember seeing the plugs used to light cigarettes might get confused at the distinction, because they've never known the 12v outlet to do anything more than charge cell phones and stuff.

Even in my 1995 Oldsmobile, I long ago removed the plug and stored it somewhere else and leave it empty so I can plug in my cell phone's car charger or whatever other car charger I need.

What is the point of an iPod dock that has to be plugged in to use? If you are going to have to plug it in, then you might as well open this comparison up to any small stereo system that has an auxiliary port, most of which will sound better than all of these, I suspect. If you need a portable speaker system for an iPod, then the Logitech here is about the only real option.

Not that I have an opinion, mind you.

@justJUSTIN: 300 was as expensive as we absolutely wanted to go, and that was only because it was Bose's cheapest dock.

Either this, or a good netbook with VLC installed. I realize that these are two completely different products, but a netbook is small enough, and capable enough, to do what this does and be a little more flexible in the codec department.

Do you suppose that the giant "SD I USB" header might be a sign that the device is really designed for geeks? And if the geeks here are scratching our heads on whether we would ever buy such a thing, what does that say about the possible sales numbers? Still, it is black and it is pretty - so there will be a couple of people that will surely buy it.

    @Reed Monesmith:

Have you ever tried to watch a movie on your ipod? Its extremely small and if the movie is wide screen (like everything is now) it makes it even smaller. And yes, I am talking about the ipod classic. I haven't seen videos on the touch yet. But even still....a 9" screen is a lot better to watch things on then a 3" screen

@Framewerk: Videos on the touch is very nice. The display is not very large, but it's big enough to hold just within arm's length and view comfortably. I used to watch videos a lot on the iPod video, but after using the touch, I can't go back. Of course, if I have an outlet, the Macbook beats all :)

This is a nifty device though. iLuv actually makes some pretty good equipment for iPods.

The tech of its sounds neato, but I will be damned if I have a gadget called the iluv and it doesn't involve teledildonics in some form or fashion.

I'd carry this kind of stuff around with me when I was a kid and got dubbed "Gadget Boy" by my older brothers. That pretty much stuck until I took taekwando (sp) and then got crowned "Karate Boy". What's my point? Older brothers suck!
