I suck. I can only do like 30 WPM because I peck with only 2 fingers hehe.
But seriously though - QWERTY was designed to slow people down. 120 WPM by a 5th grader is pretty incredible, but I wonder how much she would blow people's minds with something like a Dvorak layout.
I used to be able to do 150-160wpm, w/ very few errors (I always screw up punctuation).
I would be surprised if I could still crack 120 w/out a significant warm-up.
But I can also type 50-60wpm one handed. :P
I always wanted to learn how to type one handed on two keyboards at the same time, but alas it is impossible to truly touch-type one handed, so I would have to learn how to operate my eyes independently to make it work. 8-O
@IN THE FACE!: I actually did try to train myself to use my eyes independently, and I did make one modest achievement toward that aim, and then promptly threw up. I gave up on that research shortly there-after...
@Noobs-R-Us: Voice recognition has its own problems. Imagine trying to take notes with voice recognition during a lecture or a presentation when everyone in the room is supposed to be quiet. Uggh.
@HollywoodBob: Until schools start teaching left handed pupils to write mirrored you're just going to have to put up with the clicking of my keyboard. Seriously, writing at the pace of most lectures by hand is VERY uncomfortable for a lefty. The only time handwriting is even remotely comfortable for me is when its on a tablet hooked up to a computer.
I type a paltry 50-6o words per minute on a good day, yet somehow I don't feel the sting of inferiority. No doubt she will avoid x-rays the rest of her life, to avoid detection of her robotic endoskeleton.
Huh. I didn't know you could actually *win* that game, but here I am looking at the guy who did it. And if there weren't clones of him running around in-game before, no doubt there will be now.

(And for folks boasting 150+ wpm with < 99% accuracy, that's called screwing around on the computer. Not typing.)

Let me put it this way. By the time she's old enough to work as a secretary, voice recognition would be ready to type as fast as you can speak.
