Just a minor nitpick, the images are HDR; they're regular images that have been tone-mapped from HDR images.

True HDR images can't be displayed on any current monitors.

Even if most high dynamic range photos on Flickr make you want to barf.

really? I found them to be brillinaly refreshing as if you had merged a poet and photgrapher together and they were seeing the images through the eyes of vampire.

There is a fugifilm that does an HDR-like thing, but just with one shot (it relies on some magic with the sensor). It's not out yet, but its coming out.

This is more of a dynamic range extension than true HDR. The two shots are most likely compared, combined extra shadow and highlight detail to extend the dynamic range of the exposure.

@dMek: perhaps I take too literal an interpretation of HDR-- but "dynamic range extension" and "high dynamic range" seem pretty much like the same thing :) granted, you can push HDR to the ridiculous levels that some do on flickr, but it is more tastefully used for 'range extension' as you call it.

@fussball: it's not the HDR process that looks like shit; its the tone-mapping that produces the crap, fake looking crap you see.
