A rose by any other name--you know how it goes. Srsly, I could care less if they branded it as A Big Bag of Steamy Shit, alls I know is my new Core i7 is teh roX0rz and that ain't not too bad...

So if BMW decided to make a 4 series, would Intel start producing an i4?

Sooo...their plan to simplify the mind boggling array of derivatives of Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad, etc, which to me seem pretty clear (brand of core processors followed by number of cores on the chip)...to add now, whatever i3, i5, and i7 modifiers mean, AND still have Pentium, Celeron, Atom, and Core lines? I fail to see the simplicity.

@aquajaws: Agreed. At least I understand the terminology in the first instance. What the hell is i5 supposed to mean?

@aquajaws: they won't have the core brands anymore. i3, i5 and i7 are replacing the core branding basically.

@cullenmcd: They'll keep the Core branding. They'll be called Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7.

@92BuickLeSabre: It means that the 5 is the imaginary component.

If they wait too long, i7 will be low level, and they'll need i9 and i11

@Purple Monkey Dishwasher: Nah. The higher level of each tier will be M3 and M5. Except for M7 because that's just too big.
