They should've gone with GSM.

This explains so much why the Army of Walmart advances fearlessly upon our lives and livelihoods.

And the reason the Palm OS was stagnant was because of Access, not Palm. That's why Palm started developing Windows mobile phones. Eventually they decided to stop waiting for Access to get their s**t together, and started building their own OS. Not having done it in a long time, I'll admit they're a bit rusty, but they have some really good ideas. If they can get it together, WebOS is going to be a very powerful OS. And they're continuing to add features as quickly as they can. They're in the process of building there fairly small development team.
Too little, too late? I hardly think so. Especially when you consider that the Pixi will be out soon, and will be marketed to Centro users. This is an entirely different market than iPhone and Android compete in.
Also Android is just as unpolished, if not more, than WebOS. Each has it's strengths and weaknesses.

When we hear that there are Pre devices that have not sold we immediately start questioning whether the device is heading for the graveyard. It is amusing reading and certainly got our attention, but realistically - the Pre is doing just fine. It simply is not doing "iPhone Fine", so it is easy to beat them up.
Palm may eventually get the last laugh when in a couple years they steal away Steve Jobs from Apple. He is still on a one dollar salary, right? I am sure Palm could double it.

I hate not having Photoshop at work. I can't do anything with Paint.

And what is happening with Europe, why the delay? It's a big market which could save Palm.

So that's where they put the Ark.

I suggest we officially define the word "tanking" for all future Gizmodo writings, just for grins and giggles. Personally, my vote is for any device that has accidentally gone swimming in a toilet bowl, but that is just me.

These are the same things. Ambitious pre orders that dont turn into sales mean that its not meeting sales expectations. Which is pretty obvious since its come WAY down in price really really fast all the way to 80 bucks.
09/30/09
... but that does not mean the device is not meeting Palm's sales expectations, it only means that the orders were overly ambitious and not meeting the retail sales expectations, right?
Your point is well taken, though. That said, not meeting sales expectations (no matter at retail or parent company) does not necessarily translate to "tanking", does it? Or, maybe it does?
(In which case the "tanking" list is pretty huge.)

There are now two brilliant giz readers (I can count that high) that have questioned my astounding logic, so I will spend my time writing on the virtual Giz blackboard "I have no idea what I am typing about" 13,000 times. If I can count that high. Which is doubtful.

Facts? Get the hell outta here with your "facts". This is the internet, not your dinky "reality" or whatever the hell you want to call it.

Um no, this is a very common practice. Sony does it with their stuff too, counting units to a retailer as sold when they are not.
"and how does he get to his claim that they have 11 weeks of inventory out there? That would mean they are selling less than 2,300 Pres a week.....even the worst estimates have it at 10x as that."
Pre-launch estimates, Post launch has been MUCH more conservative than that. Even the iPhones pre and post launch claims where night and day of each other.
"also he seems to forget that it is the #1 selling phone at both Amazon and Best Buy. "
Which is a claim easily manipulated by what phones you show. and BTW Amazon shows it at number 2 with a blackberry beating it and you do know you CANT buy a iPhone on Amazon right?
"And again with the Verizon ditch lies? Even Verizon came out and said they will be selling the Pre in January"
Um no one on Palm or Verizon has even gone on record saying they where ever in talks about it beyond the CEO saying "we will have it by next year"
And the only people to refute the claim that Verizon wont pick up the Pre was a stock analyst.
I do believe someone is not doing their fact checking but it is not Gizmodo in this case.

WebOS seemed really well thought out.
I didn't buy it mostly because I have a Blackberry that is paid for by my office. I'm mostly either at home, the office or commuting between the two and buying my own personal smart phone overtop having the work one would be overkill.
