@berbar: Actually yes. Some developers release a free "Lite" version of their program. Some developers also have a free version that has advertisements in it (Like a backgammon app I have), and to get rid of the ads you buy the full version. Some lite versions of apps have other things taken out, like a lite version of another app I have on my iPod is just 3 levels, while the full version has more.
It all depends on the developer. Its their choice on if they want to release a lite version and the features the lite version has.
My only issue with these camera apps is that of the 4 or 5 i've tried they all take drastically longer to load than the standard iPhone app. And so I've deleted each after a few uses in frustration.
Have you tested this app? How quickly in comparison the iPhone app does it load and can you please include this in all future camera app tests please and thankyou!
Does Apple have ANYTHING for free and not overpriced!!?
Come on!! this service may have helped a few but not millions!!
you can do exact same stuff with GOOGLE!
See, because I don't have an iPhone and don't pay attention to much of this stuff, I was thinking Google Voice must be some type of really nifty voice dialing app. Then I go and find out it's nothing as useful as that. So what's the big fucking deal?
@TheSonOfKrypton: Does that mean that everyone who was paying $99 got a reduction to $60? I did the three month or six month trial when it came out and wasn't particularly impressed and natched that deal when it was over.
@stan-the-man: Few things in this world piss me off as much as internationals complaining about an American based site talking about American based issues. Just scroll to the next article.
That being said, Apple's App Store craptastic policies, while in this instance affect a (CURRENTLY) American-based service, affect all iPhone users, not just American.
@Dorv: How do you feel about an American-based website that continually passes judgement on an Asian company (Foxconn, if you haven't noticed)? Is that okay?
@Ultraorange: I've wanted a supported OS X build for home built PCs since x86 support was announced. I curse Apple for their craptastic stance on OS X availability. I guess I'll have to go the hackintosh route, because I ain't plunking down my hard earned cash for their overpriced desktops or laptops.
My question is this... WHY do you people, especially Matt Buchanan and the techies on this site, continue to buy apple products when YOU KNOW THIS IS HOW APPLE OPERATES?!?!?!?
Seriously, do you think bitching about it on a blog is going to change anything? I had the original iPhone, and yes, I will agree 100% that it's the most elegant/advanced/user friendly "smart" phone I've used. Having said that, the company that controls it is a steaming pile of nazi shit! And you all know this... yet you continue to buy their products and support them. Only to later bitch about what you already knew would happen. Apple does not like innovation unless it comes from them so they can control it and you.
Android is where sanctuary lies. After about the 4th or 5th time jailbreaking my iPhone, I swore up and down that I had enough of apple and its nazi ways. I sold it on craigslist and moved onto the G1. I haven't looked back since. Not once have I regretted that decision. Yes, the iPhone is beautiful piece of tech. But what good is the tech if the OS on it is only for people who need things spoon fed to them like an iBaby?
Do yourselves a favor. Sell your iPhones... and go to Android. You will thank me when you never ever have to worry about jailbreaking your phone everytime a new OS is released.
@SkoGoody: But it seems Andriod doesnt get the attention it should get or deserves to get.
Meaning it really isn't as great as you make it out to be as an open source community is dependent on the support it gets.
Don't get me wrong that isn't an issue with Android itself but what people focus on (as in people, devs, etc). As it is it looks like you just got a Facebook app after how long? That's not to say I realyl care about Facebook, but merely pointing out how long it took to come out with an official app.
It could be Android is just maturing and taking a while but so far I really dont see a phone to compete with the iphone overall with games, storage, capacity, elegance (as you say) etc all together. I know there are many phones that may say beat the iphone in 1 or two features but generally not all around (i.e. t.he palm pre can multitask but there is only an 8 gig model)
@snoop_dizzle: Just so you know, the Facebook app issue is a problem between Google and Facebook (apparently, Facebook just really doesn't like Google). Not any problem inherent with the phone.
@hodayathink is running for president of Naughty...: Oh ok thanks. Yeah I didn't mean that it was a problem with the phone itself, but more so support for apps to go through on Android (I seem to remember apps like LastFM and others taking a while thus me thinking it was a more recent example), but apparently this wasn't an issue. Point taken!
@SkoGoody: Yeah, this is a bad decision, but it's not important enough to me at this point to take a stand on it. The iPhone is still the best smartphone.
Okay, you started out well, taking Apple to task for their draconian control of a product you paid for... then you got lost.
Even if there was pressure from AT&T, it's still Apple's fault. It's their fault that they are the sole legitimate provider for application content. It's their fault jailbreaking is disallowed by their own ToS and EULA. With all of the other platforms, even where there are official distribution networks, there are ways provided to sideload applications obtained from anywhere. If I've got an Android phone, I can install Apps Google's never even heard of, let alone approved. Same with BlackBerry, Symbian, or WinMo.
Then there's the idea that this is the first time Apple's policies have hurt consumers. If that was the case then you wouldn't have had to write that article last year. This is just the latest, most high profile, case.
