I'd rather have the box. They help me to organize my small stuff and I can reuse them to ship things I've sold on eBay.

i imagine that if sandisk conform with this and send an microSD in a box slightly larger than the product, the DHL guy would be like, "Ma'am, I have a package for you, its somewhere inside my truck. I've been searching for hours. Can you help me search for it? Its a small box maybe under one of these big boxes."

You really have to wonder what the person that packed the original box was thinking.

Now I wonder if they're shipping them in those eco-friendly padded envelopes that have shredded recycled paper as the filling, or the eco-destroying padded envelopes with the plastic bubble wrap insides.

Wow if they shipped such small devices in a too large box for it, then it surely is a waste

if it is really small and you don't have to sign for it then a envelope should more then sufficient and you don't have to be @ home for it

The boxes can only be reduced so far...there has to be room for the whole label. Plus tiny boxes are so easy to lose in a truck. There is also the fragility of smaller parts. I cringe at the size of boxes I must use at work, sometimes. But, if the part is fragile/expensive...the boss doesn't want to take chances of it literally slipping through the cracks.

I had to use the box to send my defective iPhone power transformer back. The box it's self may have used once before. My iPhone, when repaired, was sent in a used box, that came with tape and an inside it. Fornatuly, it wasn't sent back when my repair came back, as that would be a waste of fuel.

One of my co- workers used to work for DHL. Standardized shipping containers cuts costs and theft. If a person is less likely to know (easily) if a box contains an expensive piece of equipment or a part, they are less likely to risk the theft- supposedly. Another point is that there are just some sizes of boxes that are easier to deal with. Then she got to explaining dimensional weight and I stopped caring.

The reason for the change has nothing to do with the material of the shipping container, but the space the shipping container takes up in a delivery truck. With the padded envelope, 4 or 5 shipments can fit in the same amount of space as one cardboard box on a truck. Saving space on the truck is what makes it "green" because of the need for less trucks on the road to deliver the same amount of product.

Also, padded envelopes can be recyclable, though not too many people know it nor do many districts in the country provide the means to do it.

Up until now, I'm ashamed to say that I've been making all my comments in unnecessarily large boxes. From now on, all my comments will be made in small padded envelopes. Starting with this one. C'mon people! We must all do our part!!! No more boxed comments!!!

Last week my 8GB SanDisk Micro M2 memory card, which is about 1cm wide and 1mm thick - came in a huge box, it was hilarious. I will reuse the box, but an envelope or a really tiny box would just end up in trash.

This looks better but in reality it's not, before the box was a little big but it was going back to Apple to be recycle, now they're sending you a envelope so you can throw it in the garbage and then sending a return envelope which is also going to end up in the garbage, Anyway they do it people are always going to bitch about it, but the best way to do it would be to have people walk into AT&T & Apple stores for a quick exchange and at the same time it will increase Store traffic and save Apple millions of $$$ on shipping these things back and forth and best of all people will quit bitching

I kinda think we are all still missing the point, if you are going to whine on about being "Green" then why the hell do those jiffy bags still look huge compared to the item being shipped.

They shouldn't be congratulated, the jiffy bags probably contain more plastic and are less recyclable than the boxes.

If apple provided a real solution, then it would be a tiny cardboard box, just a little bigger than the product. This is the way my arduino came packaged, and it made a nice change to see a box that was only slightly bigger, and had just enough packing in it to keep it safe.

As I commented last time... This is just retarded. Those boxes were actually the same ones that Apple uses Thousands of every day already. They also use thousands of the PLASTIC padded bags the adapters are now shipping in. So, is this really a better deal? Hell No! They've successfully changed from a completely recyclable cardboard box to plastic. Try again, Giz.
