Exactly my point. The moderate hardware upgrade certainly isn't making me run out to plunk down 3 or 4 hundred dollars (thats right, 3G owners don't get the discounted rate). OS 3.0 will be nice, but I won't even take that if it eliminates the ability I've had for months to tether for free.
Jailbreak for the win.
I know people are saying they couldn't go for 'wow' because of the economy, but seriously - drop all the rest of the crap and give it a slide out keyboard and I'm lining up to buy one ,same as the rest of the techno-neophytes who think that going from 2 to 3 megapixels will generate great pictures.

But then again, it's a small lens that won't gather much light, which means the picture will generally be shitty anyway. But, that's physics... And probably why I own an actual camera for pictures that count.

Go onto apple's website and try to upgrade. I have a 3G and out of curiosity went through it - 299 and 399 were the prices I was offered. On top of shafting my resale value.
Thanks apple! Early adopters get hosed again (not that I actually wanted the new hardware...but I dont like the fact that I can't get it if I wanted to).

It isn't crummy or screwing people over at all. In fact, the changes between the aren't so great that I could justify wanting to upgrade from a 3G to a 3GS (That is, if I already had an iPhone.)

totally. i guess i won't be upgrading my iphone 3g (which is my 7th iphone 3g because it constantly cracks by the way-though apple's very good at replacing it, it's very annoying). voice command seemed very enticing though, not sure i'm that lazy to spend 699 for it. but i am so lazy...

I honestly don't see what all the hub-bub is about. Best thing about the iphone that came out today for folks that don't have them is the $99 3G. The new hardware is designed for people who really don't know their tehcnical ass from their technical elbow. 3MP camera still is awful unless it is made otherwise - and I still dont see a flash on the thing.
Apps open faster - oh joy, because I really needed a google map and I mean NOW.
Video recording - 30FPS, roughly on par with the ultraportable type recorders (flip). Don't need.
If I didnt have one already this might sell me on the 3G, but the 3GS? Nah thanks, I'll wait for the long rumored 3G Pro - I want physical keyboard, that is literally the ONLY upgrade that owuld make this worth it.
p.s. STILL no flash plugin support. LAME
