Its not as bad as Vista being delayed a whole year. Speaking of Micro$oft, where is that amazing new Windows Mobile they been promising for past 8 months? Hmmmmmm
Dude, it's only two months! Take a chill pill. Jobs has said after their Mobile me debacle that they will not release crapware again. So you should be happy not angry that when they do release it it won't crash your iPhone every 5 minute.
Definitely pleased with the update; podcast updates (even with 3G support) is certainly welcome. It's not great, and I'm still pissed that Apple isn't allowing 3rd party podcatching apps, but it's better than nothing. It could have been done more elegantly too; rather than sending you to the generic iTunes store when you "get more episodes" it should take you to that podcast page. And it should have an auto-update feature like the PSP has. Maybe in time...
Being able to email locations is a nice upgrade to the map feature as well, and probably more useful than the streetview, at least for me. If public transportation works as well for other cities as it does for New York, then I'm super impressed. I'm still trying to figure out how much it covers - does it do buses in other cities? I like the fact that I can get walking directions from New York to Boston. Total travel time; 2 days, 23 hours.
remember that massive rant-blog about users being rude and annoying - and about how they would be deleted?
would you guys pleeeaaasseee start monitoring all the comments using the "FAIL!" commentary [used to mock others]. i can understand this on product reviews, etc... but it's getting old.
@devianaut: I have to admit, although I'm not guilty of using FAIL in comment postings, I still chuckle when I see it used properly. Its the interwebs equivalent of a bitchslap and I'm usually a fan of the bitchslap. :|
@matt buchanan: Here! Here! Thank goodness. I'm not the only one. Although, 'kind of' doesn't adequately describe the extent of my hatred.
I've never thought this commenter(iAirmanshirk) was worthy of being a gizmodo commenter for two simple reasons. Virtually every comment is one line. And, virtually every comment is a rabid Apple fanboy post from someone who doesn't even have an iPhone.
If there were the ability to ignore commenters, this troll would be the first on my list.
Anyway, This doesn't look like enough new stuff to warrant a re-jailbreaking and reinstalling of EVERYTHING on my phone. Any fellow hackers with a good way of redoing the phone when these updates come out?
Will it stop Safari from crashing? Or the NYTimes app? Or stop the iPod from randomly stopping while I'm in the middle of watching a video? Or help me actually get 3G speeds when using simple apps like Stocks? Or play nice with ActiveSync?

At least Microsoft didn't run "look at us ship OSes on time" ads while simultaneously announcing the delay.

I've heard some freaky stories about people saying the aforementioned "MM" words into their iphones 3 times...
don't risk it just to be a showoff. You've been warned

IM apps really are worthless on the iPhone without push.

Because RIM has been able to do push for years. It can be done. So really, what's the excuse?

Doesn't seem like this is an apples-to-apples comparison (no pun intended), but I could be completely uninformed.

Respond when you want - if you don't have reception, the phone will send the message in the background once you do.
