iPhone OS 3.0 Software Review: What To Expect |

1. its better! you bought the hardware knowing that the software on there sucked. this is a MAJOR improvement over 2.0, whether you use the features and "see" it or whether you're exploiting the added stability.
2. its FREE! i mean, jesus, we've been paying for major software upgrades from apple and M$ for our PCs for years -- what would stop them from charging us? you KNOW people would pay for it, particularly if it were just $10, like for touch users (by the way, I don't understand why a iPod touch user would bother with this)
3. I'm seeing a lot of "mehs" about the landscape keyboard. I'm a taller guy, with proportionately taller extremities, and let me tell you, i had a bitch of a time getting my paws around the old keyboard. I'm typing AT LEAST twice as fast, probably faster, on landscape. That in itself was worth the hour my computer took to DL the update, and then patch the phone.
One thing that would be mad useful, that we're probably not going to get from apple, is a rolling list of push apps as they come out. Hoping this blog takes up that project... but all in all, I can't believe all the naysaying. And this is from the guy who has basically hated his iPhone since the day he bought it. This update (and, generally, the frequency with which Apple makes marked improvements to the platform) is turning me around.

Push Gmail works in iPhone since 2.0, through Exchange support. Granted, it might not be obvious, but it works perfectly:

I still like the phone, though.

Before 3.0, you had to skip in 30 secs incrementals in a movie and now, if you lower your finger while fast forwarding, you can pin point to a specific second.

I'm most pleased with the A2DP support - well, at least in theory. I'm still waiting for my headphones to arrive to actually test that feature. In the meantime I think the keyboard improvement in the email has had the biggest impact, followed by the cut-copy-paste that is so useful. I'm excited to see which of the apps use the push notification, and I think there will be a lot of apps that add a little extra value that way.

Typical Apple, another disapointment put in their failure bowl.

Add to that.. if MS let their servers go down on a big release like this... the internet would be abuzz about how it was another MS failure.
Apple lets their servers go down... and the chatter will surely be about how the popularity of the update crashed the servers... through no fault of Apple's of course.

Very very happy with this feature, specially since it looks like it will remain working and FREE here in Spain!

I'm posting this message with my ethernet cable unplugged and my iPhone tethered.
