On my system (both Win XP and Win 7, virtualized in VMWare) blackra1n.exe crashes miserably as soon as I press the button. It doesn’t do anything.

all CDMA phones can't be unlocked, and the iPhone can be unlocked legitly forever it's just that AT&T doesn't give out the unlock codes.

No you cant, its a common misconception about cdma. Yes you can alter your ecid with a bit of hackery. However, the carrier has to have the ECID, UUID, and about 40 other bits of info in their system to get the phone activated and running. This info is put into the computers way before the phone goes to the store and the store reps cant add to it. Also 99% of cdma cellproviders will not allow non-network branded phones onto their network. Another thing worth mentioning is that without more info about the networks various proxy's, you will not get internet, messaging, data, or voicemail. This easily explains it...

@BlueGeek: Yes, exactly. And I've been 1. using the Apple discussion forums to complain (along with several others, most notably 1G iPod touch users who don't have volume controls on the device *at all*) and 2. using Apple's request form to tell them to revert to the previous featureset. I also sent a rather curt email to Steve Jobs and Paul Schiller because it angers me so much. I've been fighting for a universal app sound override Settings option since September 2008.
To @EBone, @kazinstrife (and even my new friend Spinny who can't see his own comment yet): Before firmware v3.1, if you double tapped the home button while an app was running, you'd get a pop-up of the iPod controls. If you double-tap now and fix it in the Settings menu, it exits OUT of the app and takes you to the music app. Not what I'm looking for.

Also, all new ipods touches (g3 i know, not sure of the 8 gig), and iPhones come with the headphone with mic and volume controls.

The problem for me is when I am running a game and want to at least have control of my music. If the game is running and the game is set to automatically turn off my music, I have no way of getting the music app again via double-tapping. And that issue is even worse for people who are running 1st gen touches because they have no access to volume control at *all*.
It's a real shame that Apple doesn't care to address this and even removed its functionality with the 3.x firmware.

Make sure Settings - General - Home has "iPod" selected and "iPod Controls" set to On.

For me it's a double tap while the iPhone is still locked. That always brings up basic iPod controls for me no matter what's happening (or not happening) on my iPhone. Just previos/play/pause/next and, if something's playing, the basic track info.
This even works when I'm in, say, Tap Tap Revenge.

I was about to send this above reply when I decided to verify. It does work when I'm in the menu of Tap Tap Revenge, but not during gameplay. However, although TTR took control of the audio, once I exited to the TTR menu out of the gameplay screen, I could then lock, double-tap home, and click play once again.
So the only time this doesn't work is when a game is actively taking over the audio. It works fine once a game lets go, sometimes without exiting the app, and you don't have to re-open the iPod app to get it to work after something else has stopped your playback. #iphoneos312

From a full charge with minimal use (1 hour music, checking mail every 15 mins, 1 or 2 short phone calls) it said I was at 12% after only 4 hours. I Plugged it in to charge and it suddenly jumped to 63% and was fine the rest of the day. This keeps happening and I'm hoping this update fixes it.
I had the no wake once as well.
