What is the point of an iPod dock that has to be plugged in to use? If you are going to have to plug it in, then you might as well open this comparison up to any small stereo system that has an auxiliary port, most of which will sound better than all of these, I suspect. If you need a portable speaker system for an iPod, then the Logitech here is about the only real option.

Not that I have an opinion, mind you.

Bose SoundDock PORTABLE would beat all these.. it uses waveguide and the SoundDock series 2 doesn't.. seriously give it a whirl, yeah its another $100 but its also battery operated.. my fav product Bose makes

Where would I put it?

I have my Tivoli at work with my dock plugged into the aux. So those needs are taken care of.

I have a cradle at home plugged into my receiver in my living room. So those needs are taken care of.

And in the kitchen and bedroom, I only listen to radio (and my 20+ year-old Sony CD/cassette deck is still working like a champ).

This is a solution to a problem that was solved by many ages ago.

Really, I don't really mind that it won't charge the iPod. Newer iPods these days last for hours on end on constant playback, and I'm not going to leave my iPod hooked up to this thing all day anyway, so what's the difference.

@Kaiser-Machead: I don't really mind myself either, but for the retarded error message that pops up on the phone when you plug it in.

I've got a Monster charger for the car (don't hate me, it's the only one that has a mini jack in the dock connector for true line-out) which doesn't charge the iPhone. It will still play through, but I get this horrible message about turning on airplane mode and then while I'm using it there's a big yellow triangle with a ! in it telling me that my iPhone isn't being charged. Plus it seems to drain the battery quicker connected to it than not.

@DeeJayQueue: For the iPhone, I imagine that's a point, but for regular iPods that don't get these messages, I guess it's not so bad.

those battlemodo's were great and all, but please don't let history repeat itself.

if anything, PLEASE bring back low end theory (LET). I would be more than happy to contribute to it as well

That just threw a fresh can of gasoline on my already burning hate for why I can't use my older devices to charge my new apple products. I DRILLED HOLES IN MY CABINETS to install an iPod dock and now I can't use it to my iPhone. WTF

@RustyO918: Other iPods would have no problem docking, since each come with their own adapter. It's only the iPhone that's different.
