To be serious though, one cannot expect Apple to offer huge discounts as they don't want to undercut the retailers who carry their products.
By essentially matching their prices, they aren't really competing against their retailers yet Apple gets all of the additional profit which would be shared with the distributors and retailers.
Buying directly from Apple is a win for Apple, but a loss for the distributors, retailers, and especially consumers.

I'd say slicing out the middle man and dealing with a company directly is more efficient and generally more pleasant for the consumer.
Screw the distributors and retailers.

S'cool. This one time, I bought something online at like 3 in the morning, and I thought, "Hey! Extended warranty! 3 extra months? For JUST $80? Bring it on!"

Pathetic. Thats basically just the student/teacher discount anyone can get walking in off the street and saying you're either one. (which really ticked me off to find they don't actually ID people when they do say they are teachers or students. So much for that deal) This should make every person who stayed in line, or got up early and went online pissed enough to walk right into any of the phenomenal deals on PCs at EVERY other retailer. Mac OSX is great, but Windows 7 is great too people. And far cheaper (in the big picture).
I mean, I was just looking for an iPod Touch for my wife and just went online. But seriously, I know many other teachers I work with who were interested in new laptops and were probably there at the crack of dawn. I can't wait for the anti-Apple backlash on Monday.
In conclusion. Thank you Apple. Thanks for showing me, and hopefully the rest of the tech community, how much you value your customers over your precious inflated margins. I know it's been a rough year for you, and I know you need the money more than all of those people who are hurting financially these days but still considered your comparable laptops (even at 40-60% markup over the competition).
I am a (semi) happy Macbook Pro owner in spite of you Apple, not because of you. When the Apple fanboy community wakes up to your greed and air of superiority, you will be alone, profitless and as bankrupt as you once were. Only this time, you won't have Microsoft to bail you out with millions of undeserved dollars.
Flame On!

To be honest though, most Black Friday sales were crap this year. Except for one or two items here and there (L4D2 for $30 down from $60, a Creative Arena headset for $50 and free shipping down from $100), the amount taken off was either extremely small percentage wise or it was taken off on a product that wasn't selling (age? quality?) and the stores just wanted to clear their shelves.

@Everyone Else: I agree that Apple deals are usually not that great on Black Friday. This is their choice. One I would defend them to be able to make. I do wish they would have come out and flatly denied the hoax ad that hit the net a week or two ago. That was easily done and did no one any good left the way it was. However, this speaks to a larger problem, and not with Apple themselves.
The simple fact is: if Apple pissed you off with Black Friday or with any of the bad press they have received this year, look elsewhere. It's just a computer. In any economy it is foolish to throw money at a corporation that couldn't care less if you are their customer (individually). You don't know Apple personally. Apple is not a religion, you shouldn't believe in Apple. You won't hurt Apple's feelings if you buy a different computer and you shouldn't care if it did.
I like my MacBook Pro, I'm happy with the purchase and I think anyone could be too. But the same goes for almost any computer. If you like computers, you will be happy with Windows, Mac OS X or even Linux. Shop around. If you just love Apple, then I am truly sorry for wasting your time.

This is a disgrace to every Black Friday-er.
Apple, you FAIL!

But seriously, is it just me or is this the worst sale you have ever seen? Their "special" on a MacBook pro provides a saving of <£2.
Pittiful.

I know, right?!?
I can't believe that Palm is still firing volleys across the bow of Apple! I'm sure the next update to the iPhone will turn the Pixi back to it's former, black self.
Will this petty industry bickering never stop?
