    Wait...I got an iPod classic 80 GB in 2007 and there also was a 160 GB one...then my friend got a 120 GB one for Christmas 2008 since they were the only ones available...WTF

    @Bababoof is amazing: Two generations ago, Apple had an 80GB and 160GB. The generation before this, they decided to get rid of both and instead offer a single 120GB. Now, it appears they "went back" to the 160GB to replace the 120GB, though it's innards might or might not be different, as there was some type of upgrade.

    Why they did this, I'm not sure.

    @FlameEye: The old 160GB model was thick, about the size of a cigarette pack. The 120GB model was the thinner, standard Classic size. This new 160GB model is also the standard size. They dropped the original 160GB model because of the physical size of the device (which also took a nasty toll on the battery).

    Joke's over. I know all about the 160GB classic, having had two in my apartment with dud power connectors. My ex-gf's 160GB broke almost exactly a year ago.

    I won't ever buy a classic. They were unreliable hunks of junk then and I have no reason not to believe the classic iPod classic won't also be a dud.

    Apple actually did have a 160gb Classic. They used to come in 80gb and 160gb, then they released the 120 and discontinued the other two.

    What are you talking about, Frooch? Apple never had a 160GB classic. 120 GB has ALWAYS been the largest capacity. This classic is something new.

    @OMG! Ponies!: Actually... there was a 160 GB iPod Classic. Before the 120, there was an 80 and a 160. They compromised on the 120 because they said the 160 wasn't selling well enough.

    @superberg: Better question is, who has 160GB worth of music? Even at 320kb/s, you'd have to have a massive library of music to get anywhere near that.

    So, we have $79 for a 4GB player that needs a $20 accessory before you can use a different set of headphones than the set that comes with them. It's only real function is to use to work out.
    On the other hand, you can buy a 4GB Sansa Clip for $47.95 at Amazon, or an 8GB for $78.38. You also get an FM radio, voice recorder, and a screen.
    If you wish to stay with Apple (iTunes), you can still get the 1GB 2nd generation shuffle for $49 from Apple.
    Since Jobs came back, Apple has made very few missteps, but the 3rd generation Shuffle is, in my opinion anyway.

    @bonerobo: +1 for the sansa clip... i bought a 4 gig clip and its great...it has a screen, no additional software required, universal cable...

    I bought a 2gb Sansa Clip for $20 shipped from Woot earlier this year. But wow, I should have saved my money and gotten a headphone adapter! (plus $75 for the shuffle)

    @cc82: lol... Awesome! I too recently picked up a Sansa Clip. I missed the woot sale but I managed to pick up a 4gb Clip for just over $40. I really do not understand the point of a shuffle...

    @cc82: I have a touch, but still use my Sansa Clip when exercising or working in the yard. I had the original Shuffle and sold it for the Clip.

    The problem is this dongle will connect before the headphones, right by the shuffle itself. You might as well put the controls on the shuffle then, since they're no longer located "more conviniently" up the headphone cord.

    @my name is jonas: Yeah because controls on the actual device wouldn't of been convenient at all.

    I don't foresee the current shuffle living on. If apple even releases another shuffle I don't think its going to have the same design.

    Please stop bashing Apple. Voice Control is one of my favorite new features which exposes me to new music.

    For example, when I say "Play Songs By Jane's Addiction", Voice Control says "Artist Not Recognized." Eventually, after four or five failures, I wind up having to listen to newer not as good music.

    Oh, sorry, I had honestly forgotten that the shuffle was still part of Apple's lineup. Personally, I recall America having lost interest quite a while ago... Even moreso when this wasn't available at launch.

    @alexmg2420: I've yet to see a new shuffle in the wild, but they are great for working out. That's the only market I see for it.

    It was a great value las gen, but Shuffle+$20 certainly isn't worth it.

    This is getting dumb. Apple should drop this generation of shuffle entirely and revert to the old one until they have some sort of buttons attached to this current model.
