    For the purposes of constructing a 16:9 screen, we'll turn the devices landscape and ignore the area surrounding the screen. Then, we want a perfect 16:9 ratio, so we get an array of 7698 (horizontal) by 6495 (vertical) devices. The screens are 480px horizontally and 320px vertically, for a net resolution of 3695040 by 2078400 (which you can check is slightly wider than 16:9 widescreen).

    That's around 7.68 terapixels, and it represents the total number of pixels shipped in the 50,000,000+ Apple iPod touch/iPhone devices.

    The physical size of this display is not 16:9 due to the extra border: it's around 34641 by 15588 inches (assuming that all devices are 2.4 by 4.5 inches), or about 962 by 433 yards. The diagonal measurement is nearly 38000 inches, or 1055 yards. #ipodcluster

    if you stack the iphones in portrait like they have there, a 16:9 screen of 50 million iPhones would be a 3490 ft screen measured diagonally allowing ~.5in in between each phone #ipodcluster

    This reminds me of an installation I saw in London a couple of years ago - big glass box, lots of mobile phones hanging inside it (they were still exciting back then) You dial a number, watch it ring one phone, then another, each one lights up differently, same with text messages. I forget the point now but ...aaah you had to be there I guess. #ipodcluster

    18, 762 are fart apps
    27,984 are repackaged facebook and myspace games
    52,136 are generic match-3 clones of bejeweled or collapse
    1,115 are educational and designed for students
    3 are actually used more than 5 days after download/purchase #appstore

    About damn time. Every time I bought something at an Apple Store and they whipped out the EasyPay, I always asked when they were gunna make use of the Accessory API and just use iPod Touches. I did NOT, however, foresee the stylus...well, so much for nothing-but-fingers input. Now devs are gunna start making shit that requires one, and the stylus for the iPhone will be like the Nunchuck for the Wii....they shouldn't make you buy it separately, but you know you have to. #ipodtouchpos

    @Ginsu: How the hell did you come up with that? Last I checked fingers could easily be substituted for styluses. I don't think I could substitute my fist for a nunchuck, would be interesting though.

    Styluses for iWhatevers have been around for ages anyway. It's an optional accessory and doesn't do anything your finger can't do so there's no way the evil devs can force you into buying one.

    The reason they're using it here is because it's a hell of a lot easier to write your signature using a facsimile of a pen than your finger. #ipodtouchpos

    @Obee Juan: No and thats kind of the point. Your finger doesn't work for the fine things. Signature, drawing (though some people are doing some great things), characters, other fine movements don't work with a finger. You need some kind of stylus.

    Its the same thing for a tablet. A lot of the discussion on the tablet has centered around the what the input was going to be. How the keyboard was going to look, etc. I'm saying I find them including a stylus interesting in that regard. The stylus input was often rejected because its a step back but maybe not. #ipodtouchpos

    You have to have a stylus for signatures. You have to have a stylus for handwriting input. If you want a tablet the only way you can make it work is with handwriting input, just that simple. #ipodtouchpos

    PS the iPod Touch screen in this POS device has not been modified, but the stylus is special in that it conducts your body's static electricity onto the screen #ipodtouchpos

    If you follow the arguments on the comments you'd see that the whole stylus thing has been largely discounted because apple is moving past that with the capacitive screen. The capacitive screen doesn't work like the resistive screen does with a stylus.

    A software keyboard is pointless on a tablet. A hardware keyboard is beyond pointless on a table (get a netbook at that point). #ipodtouchpos

    Signatures don't really matter period. If you dispute it they're just going to say "well it was signed". Which doesn't really matter either because you'll win the dispute 9 out of 10 times anyways. #ipodtouchpos
