<![CDATA[Iron Man 2 Leaked Footage Sets My Pants On Fire]]> Holy Geezuss-roller-blading-in-a-tutu-christ. The next gadget-ridden Iron Man movie looks absolutely amazing. I mean, it would be amazing anyway just by the blinding presence of Pepper Potts alone, but these five minutes of footage have got me by my iron jewels.

<![CDATA[First Pic of Mickey Rourke as Whiplash in Iron Man 2]]> The image associated with this post is best viewed using a browser.Curious as to what Mickey Rourke is going to look like as Whiplash in next summer's Iron Man 2? Be curious no longer.

Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) sports a power pack on his chest that looks similar to the one used by Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). "The technologies are definitely related, and that's part of the core theme of the film," says director Jon Favreau.

The character's alter ego, Ivan Vanko, is a Russian who, Favreau says, "has constructed his own version of a suit." Among the creative alterations: a pair of whips, powered by the suit's glowing chest piece, expected to keep Iron Man cracking. Whiplash "is going to light them up," says Rourke.

This first image of the character shows the villain making an appearance at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix.

<![CDATA[First In-Suit Shot From Iron Man 2 Catches Tony Stark With His Pants Down]]> Here's the first shot of Tony Stark in the Iron Man suit from the set of next year's sequel. Or at least part of the suit.

Robert Downey Jr. appears to be taking a break here, wearing only the top half of the suit, but it's still cool to see how he actually gets the thing on in a candid shot from the set. [People via Ain't It Cool News]

<![CDATA[Iron Man 2 First Photo Fires Up Our Rocket Boots]]> Here it is, the first official photo from Iron Man 2. Tony Stark is looking concerned because he ran out of bourbon while a wall of Iron Men look on. I can't wait.

Director Jon Favreau says that Iron Man 2 will take place six months after Tony Stark tells the world that he's Iron Man, and they want "play with idea" of a superhero who's open about his identity. "But it obviously has consequences-in his relationships, on the team. There are a lot of areas we can explore." Yes, like what if all of his suits got together and formed a dance troupe?

In the photo we see the original suit used to break out of his hellish imprisonment, his Mark II armor and two sets of the Mark III—the old and busted one from fighting Iron Monger and a brighter, shinier one that's all cleaned up. I know I've still got Terminator, Star Trek and Harry Potter and Transformers this summer, but I want Iron Man 2 to come out now. [USA Today]

<![CDATA[Mickey Rourke Will Do Power Armor Wrestling In Iron Man 2]]> Mickey Rourke, who is riding on the shoulders of delighted critics for his kick-ass performance in The Wrestler, is joining the cast of Iron Man 2 along with the always-great Sam Rockwell.

The trades are powering up the speculation, regarding Jon Favreau’s next Iron Man installation. Rumors have it Mickey Rourke is on board to play the Crimson Dynamo (which has been reported as a character in supposed casting calls). Which would mean get ready to see Rourke power armor clad beating the crap out of Iron Man.

The Hollywood Reporter says they've heard rumors that Rourke could also be up for the role of Whiplash, but many entertainment sites are standing by the Dynamo reporting.

Sam Rockwell is rumored to be portraying Justin Hammer, the bazillionaire rival of Tony Stark. Similar to Stark, Hammer is a genius and has his fingers in hundreds of gadgety pies. So he's smart, rich and well equipped, just like Tony, but he makes his money from criminals.

<![CDATA[Marvel Already Dates Iron Man 2]]> It looks like Marvel wanted to test the waters before stating the obvious, but Iron Man 2 will be hitting theaters April 30, 2010. HOW CAN WE POSSIBLY WAIT TWO YEARS, you ask? Simple. Just remember what happened to The Matrix.

For those not just interested in the tech-based superheroes, Marvel also announced dates for Thor, The Avengers and a Captain America standalone. Hit the jump for the full press release.

Feature Film Slate Update:

Marvel today updated its feature film slate strategy and plans for the next three years, locking in key release windows for its character franchises. In order to focus its attention on maximizing the success of an Iron Man sequel and the launch of Thor in the summer of 2010 and because Marvel believes that the summer is the optimal time to launch a new property, the Company will not release a self produced film in 2009. Marvel plans to launch its 2010 film slate with the release of the sequel, Iron Man 2, on April 30, 2010, followed by the launch of Thor on June 4, 2010. Additionally, Marvel is planting its feature film stakes for summer 2011 with an Avengers-themed summer - a two-picture project which will debut on May 6, 2011 with The First Avenger: Captain America (working title), followed by The Avengers in July 2011.

Marvel's Chairman, Morton Handel, commented, "Adjusting for the strong year-ago contribution from the Spider-Man JV, Marvel's Q1 2008 operating results continued to demonstrate strong global demand for consumer products based on the Company's portfolio of characters. Marvel's self-produced feature film slate launched this past weekend with a performance that firmly establishes Iron Man as a major new film franchise, and the Company eagerly awaits the June premiere of The Incredible Hulk, Marvel's second self-produced film. In addition, Marvel has been investing in other important areas of growth such as the Internet where, to lead the Company's newly formed Global Digital Media Group, Marvel recently announced the hiring of Ira Rubenstein. Marvel has a strong foundation to build from, and the Company is adding infrastructure to maximize these opportunities."
