The reason for my misunderstanding is because I am getting OEM upgrades for the systems that I purchased this year, and as such, the manufacturers are sending me fresh copies.

@David Han: The problem is that if you didn't pay, it would (currently) be good for only 30 days, since you need an activation key to unlock it past that date. #windows7studentedition

@Soldier_CLE: no you can use this to upgrade XP. You just have to do a clean install, but you only have to pay the $30 for a key. #windows7studentedition

As a few others have been saying, the download seems to fail at or around the 20mb mark. I've tried several times now and it's consistent. #windows7studentedition
is the link to the ISO above for home premium or professional? the student deal actually allowed for purchase of either version, so shouldn't there be more than one ISO link? #windows7studentedition
@Scott Morrison: Likely, if this is like the retail release, the disc is the same for both versions. It's the key that's entered that determines which version gets installed. #windows7studentedition
@AlphaTeam: Actually, you are asked for the key during installation, but you can skip it until later if you wish. If you skip the key, you have to manually choose which version you're installing. #windows7studentedition

Again, thank you all for the clarity on this matter : ) #windows7studentedition
