SJ may have bailed on Macworld when it became obvious that there was no real ZOMG to announce. In this case, the health thing might have been a fig leaf for no big announcement. Hauling out SJ to announce a new keyboard shortcut for "Save As" in iPhoto, or whatever it is that they announced, would have drawn more attention to the non-event.
Anyway, sort of looking forward to CES as I'm interested in a couple of gadget purchases this year as my personal way of resisting the financiapocolypse.
Crap, CES coverage? WHY?!?! I come to this site for gadget and electronic coverage, not your rabid CES-fanboyism! Give me what this site is about; Gadgets and electronics!!! Is there anyway to avoid CES coverage? I tried using your "special" RSS feed, but it's no good b/c two stories were mis-tagged and I had to look at their abstract before NOT clicking on it. WTF?
You know, I know that a classroom setting is not exactly on the list of uber-important things for you bread-making 3-piece swivel monkeys, but it's actually nifty to use if you're putting on a presentation for a course, or if you're a student in college doing a research presentation.
As a side note, I gotta give them props for the Mac Box set pictured here. Good price for all three and much easier to describe to the non-smart people who come by here....
I can't find any mention of the subscription info at Apple's product page. I could just be blind, but any help? Why would they sell a product now and then announce, "Hey by the way, there is a subscription fee of $99 a year to continue using this product....."
Unless of course it's optional and not in addition to the package in which case why not include it with current subscribers of MobileMe (I still have 10 months free left on my account!).
ARGGGHHHH! I still love old Apple, I still love old Apple. Everything's gonna be OOOK.... everything's just gonna be hunky dory...
damn it...thwarted by online apps. now that I got a mobile Me subscription (half price thanks to eBay) I have to buy an annua lsub to iWork if I want to use keynote (honestly much better than power point, but I always got it free with computer upgrades)
Interesting, however I have yet to see a single "corporate drone" using Keynote. Actually, I am not certain I have seen anyone using Keynote besides when I have played with it on my MacBook. Still, if the suits were waiting to use a Mac for a presentation because they needed an iPhone remote control, they have officially lost that excuse.
@Monty: Actually I use keynote at our company meetings, as I'm the one who throws those together. Since I'm a mac guy it works way better than powerpoint, and infrared (line of site) remotes suck in most environments. I will almost definitely end up using this.
@lpranal and the magic holiday taco dip: We use RF remotes for presentations, which is similar to this anyway. Agreed -- infrared does not work, but I have not seen an infrared remote being used for a presentation since the turn of the millennium.
@FHJay: All three applications use a proprietary file format to save documents: .key for Keynote, .pages for Pages, and .numbers for Numbers. Although the documents appear as regular files in the Finder, they're actually bundles that contain a gzipped XML file and all the images and other components as separate files.
You can save to .doc, .xls, and .ppt because if you couldn't, even fewer people would use iWork. But the 800 lb. gorilla of productivity is still MS Office. iWork, on the other hand, is still trailing OpenOffice.
@Kaiser-Machead: if you ever have to give a presentation with the display behind you, you'll appreciate this. Being able to control it remotely and walk around while still being able to see your notes and view which slide you're on is pretty nice. And if you've already got a Mac (which I assume you do) and you give a lot of presentations, I imagine you'd find it worth $1.
So Garage Band gives lessons now? I can think of a lot of struggling musicians who depend on getting paid to give lessons who might not be keen on this.

It's a long way to go.
It's a long way to Cupertino
To the sweetest Mac I know!
Goodbye removable battery,
Farewell Steven Jobs!
It's a long, long way to Cupertino,
But my heart's right (I need a rhyme for Jobs).

Sigh, had I known my senior design project a decade ago would be worth $.99 a pop...
Useful, sure. But, color me unimpressed.
