@Noobs-R-Us: that's the most ignorant and absurd thing I've heard in a while.
Jailbreaking = not being an zombie sheep in Apple's herd.
If you're dumb enough to install SSH and then leave the password as the default ...well you shouldn't have been installing SSH in the first place then.
@Noobs-R-Us: I would say jailbreak = sex. Can it be dangerous? Of course. But when done correctly it can be fun, safe, slightly embarrassing and always ends in tears. Wait. That's not right.
@xxdesmus: What I was implying was that when you jailbreak, you take your chances jut like when you have unprotected sex with a prostitute. Sure, you may not catch STDs the first time but you're really pushing your luck.
@Noobs-R-Us: No, no. It's more like having sex with a prostitute, then going into the bathroom to wash up. After which you realize you've left your wallet in your pants on the floor, instead of taking it into the bathroom with you...
@Coolmodo: Well, riddle me this genius. What happens when someone makes a nice jailbroaken app that turns out to contain something malicious? Who's gonna protect your sorry ass? How will changing your password help?
@Noobs-R-Us: not jailbreaking is like letting someone else put a used condom on you, that you can't change... and you don't even know who else used it, ew! #iphonewormrickrolljailbroken
@Lukasz Fabis: Nay! You must cast of the chains of oppression & tyranny that Steve Jobs has placed upon you. Fight the good fight. Never give up! Never surrender! Or you could just move to the land of the free by buying the Droid. #iphonewormrickrolljailbroken
@NorwoodIsMyHero:
I'm perfectly content with my iPhone as it is.
I've tried jailbreaking a couple of times. All the half-assed features and ugly workarounds offered by it aren't worth the hit to stability.
I'm sure there are people that (tastelessly) want to make their iPhones look like Windows Vista. I'm sure there are people that want their phone to vibrate like a dildo when typing messages. I'm sure there are people that want to waste resources by running several apps concurrently.
@Lukasz Fabis: Hey, not jailbreaking is fine if all you want is fart apps. But if you want to do things that are actually useful (as others pointed out, Skype, Pandora, etc), then backgrounding is a must.
And before you flame me, I'm just echoing your hyperbolic style on the other side.

I still fail to see what jailbreaking has to offer there, though. Skype and Pandora are still usable without jailbreaking. Sure, you can get workarounds for some of those apps' shortcommings, but I certainly don't feel the tradeoffs are worth it. #iphonewormrickrolljailbroken
I find that the iPhone 3G's GPS unit is not as accurate as my Magellan when I'm driving. When I have Google maps open, it sometimes cuts corners when I make a turn or drifts slightly off the road on a straightaway. I'm not sure if this program addresses this issue, but I think I'll be sticking with my dedicated navigation GPS for now. Still, for those who don't have a nav system yet, this is a very cool app!
This is great, and I'm definitely going to test this out ASAP. I like the fact that it can download maps in advance, which makes it very handy for areas you can't get a data connection.
The one question I have is whether you can download maps in advance and then route on the fly, or if you can only do your route while you have a data connection. If it's the latter, this might be really handy while traveling internationally, since the times I've traveled internationally I've had to pay through the nose to rent or buy maps for the GPS, or just rent a GPS unit when I get there. I'd prefer to use my iPhone but not have to pay for international roaming.
Remember kids, every dollar spent roaming on international networks is a dollar not spent on margaritas.
@weatherman: If you do a little research before you travel, you may be able to find a cheap pay as you go data plan for the country you're going to. There's a site called prepaidgsm.net which lists operators and plans for over 100 countries. I used it to find a cheap data plan for my iPhone before traveling to Poland. 7 pence per MB as opposed to 600 pence per MB (yes, that's right, about $10) made it a no-brainer. Calls are a little more expensive than other Polish operators, but I use data a helluva lot more than calls, so I'm definitely saving a bit.
Well this is a royal turd... But it makes sense, at least from a branding and intellectual property perspective. Let's hope the Dev Team gets cracking ob this fast.. I can't live without my cracked apps and Doom on the train.
Given that Apple is in a stated cat and mouse war with jailbreakers, why would anyone be surprised when the cat swipes its paw at the mouse? if you're going to cat-and-mouse with a wily mouse, you might as well be a wily cat.
I'm so fed up with them. I'm glad I sold their stock when I did. They're going to start sinking before too long. They piss everyone off, and they have become far more obsessed with form that function. D**NIT!
@JeffEd: This is a perfect example of how Apple is obsessed with function in a bad way. If they weren't, then you could install Leopard on any $100 box and feel free to run any application on their phone to reduce battery life and otherwise mess with it's intended design and functions.
this is why I can never go mac.. despite running a bit better and looking sleeker, they don't let you mess with anything.. god forbid we modify their perfect product..

If the answer to any is "no" then you're a jerk.
Any security holes will be plugged by the developers who make the software, like it's been for... ever. What a question.
So far, we are not dealing with security holes, but dumb users who left a default password in place.
So your blaming this on the mere fact of jailbreaking is a sign of your noobness.

But seriously; why hasn't this been officially available since day one?
