    You don't even have to get into LA to find stuff like this. I've seen a few in both the Detroit area and Grand Rapids (MI, not MN). And the one that goes through the building, aside from the fact that it was clearly done as a stunt, isn't terribly odd, considering California has a road that once used to go through the trunk of a tree (the tree eventually fell over, plus they realized how much damage even foot traffic was doing to all the root systems), and there's a freeway in Detroit that dives under Cobo Hall on one side, and comes out a regular city road on the other.
