Everyone is just upset because Apple happened to accomplish what most phone manufacturers only comprehend in their wet dreams; make an evolutionary device that comes with most everything you require in order for the device to funktion like it should have to begin with.

i.e.- "Golly, I just adore my new Blackberry Bold! ..... Wait.... I have to buy a memory card to throw media on it? ....huh.... I have to download images in order to render my HTML email properly? .... F*ck.. Why does my browser take so long to translate java?? !!! This pathetic rendering of yahoo is atrocious!! WHAT?!? NO SUPPORT FOR MACS?!?!?!?!

(*creating makeshift knife to impale my innards before I throwup from all the rotten blackberrys I previously ingested)

Clearly you didn't own the original iPhone for the first year or so of its life, if you did, you would have realized that it "came" with no function except a decent browser and pisspoor reception. Only after 2 years of constant update has the iphone gotten to where it is today.

LG? Are you ****ing kidding me? Wow... ask any cellphone retailer which phones come back for the same shit, they will tell you that LG, its horrible charging port, and horrible sliding mechanism is the one that breaks about 50% of all modern LG phones...

LG being so high up taints this to shit.

This is not to incite any fanboys either way, but fuck whatever JD Power and Associates has to say about anything. They are a bought and paid for service for adding awards to namedrop in ads. A simple creation like Secretary's Day or scientology.

Oh but I am very happy with my iPhone. :)

@lunarstudio: FYI those are all available, for free via jailbreaking. I just got a nice dell mini and I love having it tethered for free.. it works great over 3G. App is called PDA Net.

@addabox: Yes, but with every other smartphone you can just carry a spare battery. With a blackberry or WinMo or G1 (since it's the only Android handset out right now), the battery gets low, you turn it off, pop out the dead one, swap in your fully charged spare, and turn it back on... you're "out of action" for the whole of 15 seconds, you don't have to stop and wait for your phone to charge... that's a pretty big deal.

@rcast1986: I dunno, at 3.0 it will have every feature most people have been complaining about for years,with the notable exception being Flash support. Personally I have never cared for MMS, why use it when you have email, which is free? MMS needs to die anyway, it's just another way for greedy telcos to extract yet more money out of clueless users.

@dark42: ...but we're already paying for unlimited messaging, including MMS. Also not every phone has email, which doesn't do me a lot of good, and it's not instant like MMS. We never actually got real push services on our phones. MMS IS instant. These are the retorts I have yet to see a legitimate argument against.

FACTS:

The battery on the iPhone sucks.

Lack of A2DP sucks. (more so than lack of MMS, but that sucks too.)

Call quality/dropped calls on the iPhone sucks. (It's not just the network. AT&T is BY FAR the best provider in my area. My iPhone has dropped more calls than any of my previous 7 phones... COMBINED.)

Being stuck under Apple's finger-- sucks! (both iTunes, and app restrictions.)

I have an iPhone. I do more stuff with it than I did with my previous phones. But, I'm not necessarily happier with it than I was with my previous phones. I would consider every single one of my phones superior to the iPhone in some regard, whether it be battery life, reliability, or text messaging machine.

The iPhone isn't perfect, and it certainly isn't feature complete. That's just keeping it real.

@rcast1986: The general pattern is that revisions/next generation products have specs that exceed those of their predecessors. If they don't, it's because other greater specs sacrifice that. In the case of handheld devices, the battery life is generally increased with each generation, so it's not unreasonable to assume that this is something Apple addresses the next go around.
