Too much TNF-α, I'm afraid.

Here I support your indignation. When you're right, you're right.

It's that you guys opened up the curtain. Goldman and "tech reporters" at mainstream outlets depend on being considered as the "go-to" source, the guy in the know. They do this by relying on the misconception that the network logo watermarked on their punditry which somehow conveys the notion that they are the big-boys and all the bloggers are rank amateurs.
When you guys got it right and Goldman got it wrong, all of a sudden, people saw that there has been a radical shift in newsgathering. Not only do companies like CNBC not have the best sources, they can get scooped by blogs.
If I got news from CNBC and googled this news story, Gizmodo would have been the number 1 hit. And if I went there, I would see other stories - and possibly the source of a lot of Goldman's and others' material. This story removed the middleman. Why listen to Goldman when half the time he's just regurgitating what he reads on the very tech blogs that he bad mouths? Go to the source.
Dan Lyons has an axe to grind and always has (unabashedly) against Apple's PR. I think the bigger story is that CNBC heads hung Goldman out to get yelled at by having Lyons on. That Lyons would berate Goldman was inevitable and CNBC undoubtedly thought that "Fake Steve Jobs" chewing out the guy who had spent a month being wrong on the biggest tech story of the last 3 months would be good TV.
Goldman won't apologize because he's fighting to justify his relevance. Not just to his bosses but to his audience. Some mainstream people know Gizmodo exists now. Why bother with a guy who just reads PR copy?
And getting yelled at by the most notorious Forbes editor doesn't help Goldman's case that he's a reliable source.
Of course, CNBC might have a new show: The Berate Jim Goldman Hour.

This really should be the last Gizmodo post about Steve Jobs' health.

PUNK
Watch the second clip... Goldman puts all his business out there and then says Jobs is in denial...
Stay Classy Jim

Well what about Ernie? He doesn't even have brows.
And we know he can grow hair because...well, because he has hair. So he must shave his eyebrows. That's not strange? That's not curious?
Maybe ErnieThroat. Ever think of that?

Ooh, ooh. I knew he was sicker a week ago but I didn't tell anyone..
Keep backpedaling Goldy, you tool...

Have there been any hard facts that can categorically disprove this hypothetical?
If not, then this is still rumor, and a bunch of people (I'm looking at you, Jesus) getting all snitty about the fact that the course of events seems to support the rumors they've been peddling (or occasionally misrepresenting as fact).
I'll be the first to agree that many of the theories may be close to true. But I'm getting tired of people who don't know talking like they do.

I'm sorry, but this one, sadly, is game, set, and match.

Damn straight. Call that prick bitch out Brian, he certainly needs his ass handed to him for being such a fucking smug bastard.
01/14/09
As Brian Lam said, they got raked across the coals on National TV ... and look who was right all along. Truly, Goldman is a smug jackass, and Gizmodo is going to flaunt that for a bit. Good for them I say.

They debate the wrong argument. NBC is an established news medium where, like it or not, Gizmodo is simply a blog. Blogs have not yet developed the same type of credibility news networks have. It will come in time but this young medium is not there yet. That said, Gizmodo has less to lose if its report had been incorrect. Gizmodo reported a rumor and CNBC reported a 'fact' which came directly from Apple. Gizmodo took a leap that played out well. CNBC played it safe and got burned.
Goldman certainly backpedalled or at least tried to make up for lost ground probably to save his job (CNBC certainly would expect their reporters to have more informed sources than an internet blog). However, had Apple been truthful, CNBC would currently have no bruise from this. They would have just been later to the show.
Gizmodo, props for waking up early, but your Apple bias shows here. You should be more upset at Apple for lying to its shareholders than at CNBC for calling names.
