How about when Jobs called Blu-Ray a bag of hurt? Let's see ... I think Blu-Ray has taken off this year.
Yeah, Jobs never pulls shit like that. He's a genius (that also happens to park in handicapped spots).

I suppose Anssi Vanjoki could still be correct, if, say, 5-10 years from now the iPhone is as esoteric as Macintosh computers in 1997. I love the iPhone now, but will it be relevant in 5 years time (the future iPhone, not this current one, which will be junk in a landfill or melted for scrap by then)?
12/02/09
Um... how's Windows Mobile working out for you now Steve? Oh, and I owned a Q, and hated it from day 1.

because it would be impossible to find even a single ridiculous statement in a Giz article.
-_-

It would be only a basic strategy for a competing company.
Moreso, it would be an intelligent way of marketing their own product, and even a bit "cool" and "ballsy".
Predictions are made all the time by all companies. Lots of them get it wrong.
In Ballmer's case here, like it or not, he had lots of good points there which are still valid today.
12/02/09
He SAID 'it MAY do very well' 'they have their strategy we have ours'
the iphone IS cool.. I use one; I'm not a 'business customer'... its a toy.
what should he have said? 'APPLE IS GOING TO KICK OUR A$$ with the iPhone!'
This interview does not qualify him as an 'assclown'... seriously; grow up.

The Iphone didn't do good until they lowered the price. Even then the Iphone still isn't the highest selling buisness phone.

And Ballmer didn't answer the question he was asked. He was asked how the iPhone would impact the Zune, not Windows Mobile.
He was wrong on all counts.
12/02/09
See it wasn't till the 3G came out and the price dropped that the Iphone sales started to actually rise.
as for the question it was "what was your reaction to the iphone" So you are wrong on both counts.

The correct figure to consider is sales of new SMARTphones over the same period of time. In 2007, after launching in the second half, with limited supply, a high pricepoint, and only 1 carrier, Apple had a 28-percent share of sales, putting it behind RIM’s 41-percent but ahead of all Windows Mobile-powered smartphones that between them had 21-percent. (source [news.cnet.com]) So, if being second in sales, ahead of ALL winmo phone sales COMBINED is nothing, then Ballmer's strategy was an abysmal, unmitigated failure.

What kind of stupid nonsense is that. Anyone who has a cell phone is a potential customer. If people decided to stick with their current cell phone because of price or what have you then it counts.
Plus it helps if you read the articles you are quoting BEFORE you post them so you don't look like a fool.

And the iPhone multi-tasks with Apple's native apps, you might not have heard. This is why you can answer a call, put someone on hold and open Safari for instance, or leave iPod playing in the background while you do other things.
12/02/09
Your first part is too funny to respond to.
For business people that is really not multitasking. I know they are trying to convey that in their new commercials, but that is weak.

12/02/09
That is not really multitasking, that's just weak. You can use all of your programs while on a call on a windows phone also, but you can also use multiple "programs" at once.

Not to mention, all those high rank CEOs are COMPETITORS to Apple so why would they speak of one of their competitor's new products in high spirits and hopes? Because they know people read this junk on the web and if they're going to, it should at least be negativity on the product and not positivity, to make sure they can change the opinion of as many people as possible.
So what's next? Are you going to dedicate an entire article to Bill Gates on how he thought 640K of memory will be all the memory we will ever need in a computer? You probably should at this rate, seeing as the person that has made a mistake, has ties to an operating system called Windows so it should make for even greater material for you guys to make another lousy joke about it's crappiness despite Jobs also being a lousy fortune teller. COME ON, what are you waiting for, it'll surely bring in a lot of hits for the site and more angry viewers.
12/02/09
They had their own opinion about it. Period.
The iPhone is not the best selling or number one phone in the world.
As of Q4/ 2008 Windows Mobile still outsold the iPhone (do a search)
You also need to add to the mix RIM and all the new Android phones and in a near future WM7.
Where does it leave the iPhone at? ... As another phone, that's all. It suits some people and not some others. It's not the best selling or the number one in customer base/ total volume sold.
Leave it at that.
I still don't get the point on this story.
