    Oh Jesus. Between the unadulterated iphone love and the fear of Israel, you move further and further down my list. Jesus loved everyone, and despite the fact that Christianity forgot that (crusades, inquisition, damning everyone to hell that does not believe in Christ, etc), I love him for it! I wait patiently for him to return to bring peace on earth!

    @antitrust311: Hey! Don't badmouth the Negev. Back in college, I spent 8 weeks living in an IDF tent in the Negev, doing a dig on a Chalcolithic site about 40km north of Be'er Sheva. One of my fondest memories.


    We were camping right by Kibbutz Lahav, the only Kibbutz that raises pork.

    @Hyman Decent: The real question was how they raised it.


    Under Israeli law, it is illegal to raise pork on Israeli soil. So they built a concrete platform about 6" above the ground and hosed the pigs down throughout the day.


    The pig farming was for medical research, as pigs are valuable in testing. A large part of Israel's economy is in pharma and medical devices.

Prior to the establishemnt of modern Israel, that area had been controlled by Egypt and other entities ever since the Jews were driven out centuries ago.

    I'm trying to get all worked up about this, but haven't we known that Israel has had at least 200 warheads since 1980?


    The French started helping them in the 1950's with their weaponized nuclear program.


    Wikipedia has a very detailed timeline of their nuclear weapons program.

    @cheese3915: And that's the problem. Hawks like McCain are putty in the hands of folks like the Russians. Their bravado, shoot-from the hip reactions can be counted on like clockwork. I don't have a ton of faith in Obama (yet), but I'm confident McCain would've put us in some scary situations with the Russians.

    @TrollSlayer: Yes... like Russia and China are going to invade the US - a country half way around the world with a huge military. There are so many better targets in Asia and Europe. Nuclear weapons are another thing altogether. If they really wanted to nuke us, we really can't do anything about it, no matter who is president.
