HTC TyTN II Gets Windows Mobile 6.1 Update, AT&T Tilt Soon

HTC's TyTN II, the Euro/whitebox version of AT&T's Tilt, just officially got updated to Windows Mobile 6.1. While you could put the update on a Tilt if you were seriously jonesing for WinMo 6.1, it would wipe out all the AT&T stuff and give you a regular HTC phone. Besides, it'll start rolling out to branded phones like the Tilt soon, probably in a matter of weeks. [HTC]

A HoFo user got his hands on an AT&T Tilt, also known as an HTC Kaiser or the HTC TyTN II, and took a few shots of its exterior hardware buttons and its fairly standard Windows Mobile 6 UI. From the shots, you can't tell whether the phone has the TouchFlo topscreen UI like the standard HTC TyTN II does, but the default WM6 home screen along with Push-To-Talk is still there. The same HoFo user says that an October 1 launch date "seems right", but we'll have to wait until next week to be sure. In the meantime, hold off on any Windows Mobile phone purchases to see how this one pans out. [Howard Forums]

AT&T Tilt Gets Further Specs, Price, Launch Frame

The AT&T Tilt (also known as HTC Kaiser or AT&T 8925) has further firmed up for a September launch by way of a few leaked details from AT&T. The phone will be $349 with a two-year voice and data plan, push-to-talk, Wi-Fi, 2.8-inch tilting screen, push email, Microsoft Office for WM6, as well as AT&T Mobile Music and Media Net. There will be two versions, the 8925 with camera and the 8900 without camera, but both of them will be sans front video cam, even though AT&T's Video Share video calling service is live. The phone we've previously known as the HTC Kaiser or the 8925 has just been named the HTC TyTN II for the European market. The Windows Mobile 6 phone will be available under T-Mobile, Orange, Vodafone and Telefonica (includes O2), and will have the standard 3.5G connectivity, Windows Mobile 6, HTC's Home screen, GPS, TomTom Navigator 6, 3-megapixel camera, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD card and the flip-up screen. No price was specified, but if the first TyTN was any indication, this will be expensive. [HTC Europe]

HTC Kaiser Coming in August as the AT&T 8925?

The HTC Kaiser, unboxed here, is supposedly heading to AT&T soon under the 8925 model. This 8925 will replace the current 8525, which has been the go-to Windows Mobile phone since it was released last year. So what's new? Lots of stuff, including a 3-megapixel camera, 128MB RAM, a fold-up design, a GPS (?), a possible front camera for AT&T's Video Share, and preliminary launch date of August, according to the leak.

The leak also reports than the 8525 will be discontinued when the 8925 is released. Also, the price point of $600 sans contract and $300 with two-year agreement from the 8525 seems to be what AT&T is aiming for with the 8925 as well. [Electronista]

HTC's Roadmap Shows Sliders, Smartphones, and Fingerprint Recognition

CTI Miami got their hands on HTC's latest roadmap for their upcoming phones. Among them are the Kaiser, which is along the same lines as the Sprint Mogul (GSM), and the Vogue, which is like the HTC Touch. Some of the more interesting ones are the Nike, which is a WM6 Professional (that's the touchscreen one) that slides up to reveal a regular keypad; the Iris, which is a CDMA EV-DO Rev. A phone that looks like the T-Mobile Dash; the Polaris, which looks like an update to the GPS-enabled Artemis, and the Sedna, which actually has a fingerprint reader and both CDMA and GSM.

The Shangri-La, which is the HTC Shift, is also listed, and sports both CDMA and EDGE and has a 800MHz processor, 30/40 GB hard drive, VGA camera for video calls and fingerprint recognition. We're looking forward to all of these.

Just when people were getting used to the HTC Wing, Boy Genius goes and unboxes the HTC Kaiser. The Wing's younger, more powerful, and better-looking brother has Windows Mobile 6, quad-band GSM/EDGE, tri-band UMTS/HSDPA, a 3-megapixel camera with auto focus, GPS, WI-Fi, Bluetooth and that standard HTC sliding QWERTY that everyone loves.

What's interesting about this line of phones (by this line we mean the Kaiser and its siblings that will make it to CDMA carriers) is the tilting screen and the 128MB of RAM (75MB of which is user-accessible). Otherwise, the inclusion of a real GPS (!) on a standard HTC-styled slider makes it super winner fun-time deluxe to us. – Jason Chen

HTC's successor to the TyTN/8525 line of smartphones isn't quite out yet, but it has been photographed. Featuring Windows Mobile 6, HSDPA, a 3-megapixel camera, and GPS, this phone actually slides the opposite way as previous ones. Plus, there's a caps and function light there to signal whether it's toggled. Very useful.

No word on when/where this will be released, but the FCC says Verizon or Sprint. – Jason Chen

Dubbed the Kaiser, the new smartphone will make its debut next month at CES joining the Vox and Love we've already spoken about. The main difference between the phones is that the Kaiser will give you three flavors of wireless: 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Will it be worth its $1,700 asking price?
