Steve Jobs' Health Declining Rapidly, Reason for Macworld Cancellation |

Personally, I think it's kind of selfish of them to withhold this information. The world is much bigger than one person.

For an entire weekend, I refrained from commenting on blogs, actually, only this one, as I came to terms with a condition that, while others might think "gee that'd be nice to have," had already set me apart. I couldn't help but wonder, when other denizens of the net looked at me, did they see me, or did they see the freak that I had become?
The only choice was to never ever correct anyone's grammar or spelling on the net, never ever again. And I never do. Except... when some great public interest is at stake, or a doe-eyed damsel is about to fall from a metropolitan landmark due to an error in grammar or spelling, or it's morning and I just feel like commenting mindlessly, that it... happens. I forget. I forget, and I correct, and the tenets of Frigg's Law crumble ironically and mockingly as I spew yet another unnecessary correction over the glans internette.

This is such an easy one to make up, and so lucrative. Just short 10,000 shares of AAPL and make 3 grand in a minute. Wonderful... just for that reason, I am sceptical.
If Jobs is indeed sick I'd think he'll maybe have more of a background role and Apple will kick as much ass as before. The guy isn't even 60 and has access to the best doctors known to man. I mean, really.

Here's hoping for another miraculous recovery!

This was the first time I've heard complete strangers talking about Gizmodo... and it was definitely weird and sad at the same time, given the topic at hand.
12/30/08
Would they really go out and deny a story like this and then get blasted "months from now when the inevitable happens" per your story? Seems unlikely...
I think you need to have the lawyers ready...when you print/publish false stories you will be targeted.

CNBC has provided ZERO facts and just parroted Apple's PR lines.
Apple PR has LIED in the past regarding Steve's health, as told by Steve himself.
Learn to read. Stop spreading FUD.

Valleywag reported on precisely this fact pattern on Friday when Apple's PR flack got caught in a bald-faced lie by Joe Nocera of the NYTimes, having dismissed health concerns regarding Steve Jobs as "just a common bug".

"By claiming Mr. Jobs had a bug, Apple wasn't just going dark on its shareholders; it was deceiving them." Those are the words of Joe Nocera of the NYTimes.
Not only would Apple lie about the health of Steve Jobs, there is precedent for Apple lying about the health of Steve Jobs.

Man the apple kool aid is strong in this one.

I hope your 15 minutes of fame was worth it.

Grow some balls and stop being a damn sheep.
Jesus I have your back on this one.

Here's how the stock market works: You buy a share at a strike price. If the share value goes up, you can sell at a profit. If the share value goes down, if you sell the share, it will be at a loss.
Here's the part I don't think you understand: You are allowed to keep a share for as long as you want. There is no rule that says you need to sell off all your shares at the end of business every day. Some people hold onto shares for days, weeks or months at a time. There are even some people who hold onto shares for years; they are called investors.
You do not see a profit or a loss until you actually sell the share.
If you bought a share of AAPL at noon yesterday for $88 and then sold it one hour later for $85, you lost $3. Put in perspective, if you hopped on the AAPL bandwagon in April and bought a share for $185 and sold your share yesterday for $85, you lost $100. There's a term for this kind of trading behavior: stupidity.
When you sell shares at a loss, you are losing money. The trick is to not sell your stocks for less money than you paid. You cannot make money in the stock market by selling your portfolio at a loss.
If someone lost money yesterday because they sold based on this story, they deserved to lose their money.

I've watched this site deceive its readers with misleading headlines more and more as the war for eyeballs increases. Facts become less important than getting a story out there fast, fast, fast.
I'm already one step away from dropping it from my regular reading.

FWIW, Apple and Jobs LIKE Jim Goldman and CNBC; if something was wrong with Jobs, Goldman would definitely know more about it than any source the Jesus has.

I could care less about rumor posting or the price of Apple stock -- I am concerned about the health of Steve Jobs. We all should be.

I have the same rare pancreatic cancer as Mr. Jobs and I was diagnosed before him and I'm 100% fine. No reason he won't be here for many years to come.
12/30/08
Thats worse than sharing PRESCRIPTION medications. Its PRESCRIBED FOR A REASON.

Sometimes, it seems like the writers can't catch a break. Either they catch flack for writing "fluff" or they get yelled at for having a good scoop. There's a hell of a lot of hate being directed at Jesus and it should stop.
If he's wrong, there'll be a mea culpa. I hope to see the same from the naysayers if he's right. Until then, we'll see what we'll see.
Finally, look at the masthead on the left. The journalism industry is taking a beating - including tech journalism. And Gizmodo is doing a good enough job that they can expand.
Take it easy on Jesus.

The facts aren't in and people need to reserve judgment until they are.
And yes, the headline is front and center. It's a big story.

You idiots.
Deepthroat was a source. From there all information had to be verified by two other sources before being published by the Washington Post. Did you guys get any verification? Of course not. Just another !@#$#$@$ rumor. I know you people at Giz hate Apple but this is irresponsible.
Hear that knock Giz?
I think I hear the Apple lawyers at the door.
12/30/08
They did label it as a rumor...
P.S. I'd like to deep-throat you baby ;)
12/30/08
And Giz put those rumors out there. Unsupported rumors that cause a stock to fall should be investigated as to motivation.
This isnt journalism. It's not the first time I've been disgusted by Giz or the action of its employees. Like the guy that took the remotes in and turned the monitors on and off at the trade show last year. Just childish behavior. I come looking for information...not animal house journalism.

The flaw in the rumor is that the source says that "sometime in spring" serious health news about Jobs will arise. Spring is at least 2 to 3 months away, a reoccurrence of pancreatic cancer is usually shown to be non-localized--metastasing throughout the body.
See: http://news.bio-medicine.org/medicine-news-3/Disease-progression-model-of-pancreatic-...9816-1/
In short the logic is flawed, because if there was a re-occurence of the cancer, then it would demand a full-scale immediate medical treatment that could not and would not be known until spring of next year.
12/30/08
As a medical professional (Pharmacist) who specializes in Oncology... you are wrong wrong wrong. At MD Anderson we see THOUSANDS of relapses, many that are untreatable. ESPECIALLY with Pancreatic cancer. And if you know ANYTHING about cancer and when it METS it's DEVASTATING; and there is no more treatment. YOU PREPARE TO DIE. No chemo no radiation...NOTHING ... Steve may be headed to LTC or Hospice.... he is DYING and getting his affairs in order.
