for instance, here's a 32" 720p Samsung for $599, and it has a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. The $114 is worth the difference.

kindof off topic here, sorry.. but does anybody have a plasma vizio? does anybody else's screen get serious image retention after like 20 seconds of a static image? it's really starting to bother me.

At long last I have a solid reason to invest in this crazy new technology. Thanks, frigg, and thanks, Gizmodo!
Oh, hold on, will I also need to install that whole electricity thingie too?

Of course, with every bit of modern technology, there are hidden costs. Depending on your particular setup, you may occasionally be assaulted with such annoying phrases as "BAM!" and "ANOTHER NOTCH!" While these can be avoided, you may inadvertently stumble upon a red-haired lisping egomaniac, a maniacally cheerful woman who can't stop chatting, or a know-it-all who dresses up as molecules to demonstrate how to boil water.
However, if your goal is to fillet a fish, how bad is a know-it-all who dresses up as a molecule to demonstrated how to boil water, really? Plus, if you get an OLED TV, you might be able to use the TV itself to do the actual cutting into the fish part, since the TV will be too small to use for any other useful purpose.
