one bystander with a concealed weapons permit could have prevented this young woman's death. Criminals and Psychopaths will carry weapons regardless of the law, why take away the right to defend oneself in an area that seems to be a target for attacks.

The point is, the bystanders did NOTHING, even though anyone could have used anything to prevent the murder from continuing. A murderer with only a knife can only do so much until someone stops him. They could have THROWN something at the guy, for Christ's sake, but they didn't. Allowing concealed weapon permits would NOT have helped in this situation.

Therefore, I assume there's no relationship between this and the other VA Tech, yet individuals are under the impression (see this article) that it's the same school/campus. I can't blame them; the AP seems to have done some pretty shoddy reporting.

But no -- I just don't see a good connection here, though I hadn't heard of the story elsewhere. At first, however, I thought I was reading this from another publication in my RSS feed. It did cause me to take a second glance when I saw it came from Giz.
Sorry, but @zimzombie is right. In fact, I came to this post to see if there were comments reflective of how I felt. I'm glad that others share in this sentiment.
And @KaitouKID, in Elaine's defense, your first comment was totally unnecessary.

I'm astounded that posts regarding relevance to topic get disemvoweled (as if by some sort of Giz thought-police who discourage double plus ungood anti-Giz sentiment) yet assats like KaitouKID simply get a finger-wagging and stern talking-to.
What the fuck is up with this sort of inconsistency and rampantly weak-willed ban-hammerage?

@hnkelley: KaitouKID hasn't (yet) been disemvoweled because Elaine obviously felt it was a more effective rebuke to respond to it than to gut it.
@Tamar Weinberg and others: Why must stories on Giz have to pass a relevance test? Giz is a blog in which techy writers share their interests. Requiring every post to conform to a gadget review would make it not Giz. Consistency is the hobgoblin of little blogs. Or something.
