So if the Kindle has a problem pronouncing "Barak Obama" the first time it sees it, that makes the Kindle not unlike the average American. I wonder if the Kindle also happens to think Barak Obama is a muslim?

English is not my native language, so is interesting to found that Americans (never been in England, so I don't have an opinion there) take so many liberties about English pronunciation, and I don't mean accents or slang.

Twenty pronounced "tweny", Forty = "fory", Wednesday = "Wensday", island = "iland", party = "pary"

What is wrong with you people? English is easier to learn than Spanish or French because it has a lot less verb tenses. But now I have to learn to learn to ignore, add, replace or misplace letters because the locals do?

@DeLarge: and I suppose you pronounce it WEDnesday? or ICEland?

We are a country of liberties, and that applies to our language as well. We don't speak tea-and-crumpets English, we speak 'merican. And that's what makes this country great.

I gave up on the TTS a long time ago. My penchant for international news and science fiction proved to be an unpronounceable selection.

I do like the idea of the TTS though, and I hope they update the software at some point to give it a better pronunciation dictionary and a more realistic voice. It's a cool idea, and it would be even better if they included it in the iPhone app too.

News readers (not just anchors) with 6 figure salaries mispronounce words all the time. All the time. You'd think they would put a little effort into their craft.

So how do you actually pronounce Herzegovina? Or how about something "simple" like Beijing? How is it possible to make 6 figures and not pronounce words correctly? Wait, big hair right?

How does the text-to-speech feature pronounce FAILURE?

$500 for Kindle DX plus $14/month for newspaper = too much money.
