LaCie + Touch sensitive can only mean that when you touch them, they crash and die. I'm also seeing comforting words in their description like "explodes exponentially" and "magma."

I like the black boxes better. I like it when people come up to my desk and ask "What's that?"
I like black lacquer. I wish the furniture would come back in style.

    Looks more like T1000's ottoman.

Don't trust LaCie drives. They use really shitty chipsets in their enclosures that are prone to having mounting issues, and ultimately no mounting at all after repeated attempts.

@Kaiser-Machead: Really? This concerns me. I just bought one. And my father has several. No problems as of yet...

Were yours older versions? or their newer ones?

@Davy Grolton: Mine were the Porsche drives, but really the low cost of LaCie's peripherals generally means that the internals are shoddy. Some may last you a long time, but after my observation of my own equipment and other people I know that have purchased it, reliability has become enough of a concern for me to never purchase one ever again, same for Western Digital. On top of questionable reliability, their customer service is terrible.

@Evan, How Dare you Sir!: OWC's drives are more interesting to look at, with their translucent casings and bright blue LED's.

Does anyone know whose drives LaCie uses?

Where are the air vents and cooling fan? I've lost count of the external drives I've seen go belly-up because of overheating, including two of my own. If you get one, be sure to run a HDD temp-monitoring utility and PAY ATTENTION to it. Also remember that S.M.A.R.T. Data CANNOT BE read via USB.

@macabron: I had a similar thought several months back. If I recall correctly, there was a post about some conceptual gadgets, one of which was a USB drive shaped like a padlock. Now if you could program the USB 'key' for use with multiple locks, that would eliminate the need for huge key rings.

Of course the downside is if you lose it, you're locked out of all your stuff and not just one door. Also anyone who finds it will have free reign to raid your stuff, assuming they know where you live.
