In reply to Ballmer Bites Apple, Saying Pro-Mac Trend Is Waning
I think what Ballmer fails to realize is that people really do want what Apple is selling. I support approximately 100 PCs at my work. While I certainly appreciate a lot of what Microsoft offers (MS Office and Exchange being their two strongest points) there are times when I just wonder why their system is so darn bloated and complicated.

While I have to run and support Windows XP boxes at work at home I'm running Linux and OSX.

Another thing I've noticed is the general trend towards people wanting their computer to be more of an appliance. This unfortunately leaves Linux out for most applications (except for specialized uses like Netbooks) but the ease of use on a Mac is what many people are willing to pay that extra money for. Heck, there wouldn't be Hackintoshes out there if people didn't want to emulate the Mac.

Back in the mid 90s when I started learning my craft, Windows was hands down the best choice over Mac despite all the flaws of Win 95. Today the tides have changed and if price is equal for most home uses outside of gaming, OSX wins. #steveballmer

Pop culture says that "Google" is well on its way to replacing the word "Search" in meaning. So, how long will it take "Ballmerism" to replace "Foot in Mouth," "Ballmer" to replace "Douchebag," an "Microsoft" to replace "Crap."

I thoroughly dislike purchasing products with the MS logo anymore because it pains me to think that the profits are going to this pig-headed idiot.

I build my own computers and transfer the license which is legal as long as each individual computer has its own license. People don't realize that if you buy it pre-loaded, the license is attached to the machine (OEM). So far, I've been through 3 generations of PCs for less than the cost of an Apple. If Apple weren't such hardware nazis I would definitely use their OS (hackintosh maybe?).

He has got come things right, but when you buy an Apple product, you don't have to buy directly from an Apple store and you also get top rated support included in that price tag. I wouldn't call Apple a rip off, but I fully agree a Mac is on the pricey side. You buy what you pay for, no deception, it's just what it is.

@imTheKing: Building your own computer each thing has it's own warranty length. Just a few things for example. My monitor's was 3 years. RAM was lifetime. Hard drives were 5 years. All for no extra fee. BEAT THAT.

Personally, I (and many others) think it's better being able to actually walk into the manufacturers store for warranty issues whereas you'll wait 4-6 weeks for shipping beyond the retailers return policy.

@evangelistc01: I built my computer for under $2k and it is kick-ass powerful and can run rings around virtually anything. I didn't get bloatware or useless frills, and since I know what I'm doing, I don't need a "care" program. If your hardware doesn't shit the bed within a week of startup and you don't treat it like shit, it's going to last a long, long time. In 25 years I've never had a hard drive, video card or motherboard just "die" on me unless something very harmful was actively done to it.

Assembling a system is both ridiculously easy and also very inexpensive. Once you do it you realize just what a ripoff buying a prebuilt system is, and how much of a useless waste "tech support" is...

@UnexpectedEOF: ...yes, Apple Care is a waste too.
