Wet umbrella in your backpack?
I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
What about weight Wilson? I ditched my old laptop bag and spent some more on a practically weightless bag. It has the same material used in parachutes.... name's rip stop if I'm not mistaken.
When I have to carry my laptop around, I just put it on a protective case.
It's still less safe than my old padded bag, but FAR FAR lighter...
But I guess it's a personal thing... I have some back issues, and I really really hate carrying heavy backpacks around.

"This may be me letting practicality get in the way of good style sense"
when did function start taking a backseat to style? whenever it happened, it's a travesty that men everywhere are concerned with such frivolous girly notions like 'style' and 'fashion'. I cannot think of anything less important in the world than worrying about what the cosmo reading retardatariat thinks of ones backpack. Can you think of anyone with a more worthless opinion of anything than the ed hardy abercrombie joan rivers worshiping mall rats?
@nutbastard: Agreed, that's been my opinion since about 6th grade, and boy has it saved me a lot of heartache/money in the years since. I buy stuff that does the job, regardless of how 'cool' or 'stylish' it is. What annoys me is when a good, reliable brand, such as Levi's jeans, decides to go for style over form, and thus makes their entire line worthless for actually doing stuff, instead of standing around uselessly. I used to buy their 505 jeans because they fit great, and lasted a decent while. Now, they use a thinner fabric, and don't last worth beans, so I'll buy my jeans elsewhere.
It isn't a HAL pack pack without a glowing red eye. And Nick, I would approve your senior portrait comment if you didn't already have a star. That shit be funny.
@bobdobbs: I've read the Fourth Amendment. Cops haven't. Insisting on your sovereign citizen rights during a violation is a punishable offense, and will net you a mountain of trouble over what might have remained a molehill otherwise.
I've been debating on whether I want to pick up a backpack to lug my stuff around. These new Timbuk2 bags look pretty interesting (I've owned several when I did the messenger thing) but I'm still pretty happy with my Ogio messenger for now.
@rogsim: i am a fan of the ogio line. had a messenger i got for free and sold to a friend and have a golf bag that has held up great through the years. i highly recommend them.
@OMG! Ponies!: Umm, not so much on the ballcrushers. I've always looked at those jeans and wondered how those guys fit in them. And what happens if you see a hot girl walking down the street? OUCH.
i bought a north face backpack a while back that has a lot of these features. i was kinda bummed when i got it because my 17" laptop fits in its dedicated compartment against my back, but just barely. i usually just stick the thing in the main compartment and then stick magazines in the laptop compartment. and i carry magazines because i really only use the thing when i travel. how much did the bag set you back?
