Doberman, check. Guy placidly sleeping on a sofa, legs wide open, and his crotch openly exposed, check. What could go wrong here? Yes. everything happened according to plan. [Thanks David]

<![CDATA[Afterglow Allows You To Draw On Your PowerPoint Presentation With a Laser Pointer]]> Afterglow uses a USB camera to track the motion of a laser dot—effectively turning it into a drawing tool or a mouse. Now that is something every boardroom needs.

At the heart of the system is their special software that can automatically compensate for geometric distortion and track the movement of the pointer even when the USB camera is placed away from the projector. Getting set up appears to be as simple as plugging in the camera, and since the pointer can be used as a mouse, you won't need to use the laptop or a separate remote to control the presentation.

At $1,980, the Afterglow system certainly isn't cheap, but if giving dynamic presentations is core to your business I would figure that would be a small price to pay. [Afterglow via Gadgeteer via OhGizmo]

<![CDATA[Richard Solo 1800 Charges Your iPhone, Entertains Your Cats]]> Richard|Solo has unveiled a backup battery for the iPhone that has some features its competitors don't—a built-in LED flashlight and a laser pointer. All gimmicks aside, the 1800mAh capacity is good—but I just don't see the value in buying one of these awkward extenders for $70 when you can pick up a more practical case version like the Fastmac iV for only $10 more. <![CDATA[BluePointer Bluetooth Headset-Laser Pointer Mashup Won't Make You a Borg]]> I mean "Locutus of Borg" rather than the "Bjorn" variety of course... but admittedly, having a Bluetooth headset that you can whip off and use to fire red laser beams around is pretty sci-fi. It's the BluePointer from Brando, and I suppose it's a multipurpose gadget for professionals with little room in their briefcases: it's also got an ultra-bright LED torch and it can be used to flick through the slides in your presentations. You simply pair it with a notebook supporting HID profile and away you go. It's got a talk time of six hours, standby of 120, and does Bluetooth v2.0+EDR class 2. Available now for $90, assimilation into the collective not included. [Brando]

<![CDATA[Media Center Remote Control Gets Elegant: Amex RM-MP1]]> Amex's new RM-MP1 Media remote is designed to work with your Windows Media Center system and also to run your presentations in a business setting...and it's rather elegant, compared to some of the offerings out there. That simple design conceals a touchpad mouse, laser pointer, multimedia controls and it functions via a wireless USB dongle. It's just 4 x 1.5 x 0.5 inches in size, and comes in black or white. No info on pricing or availability yet. [Akihabaranews]

<![CDATA[SteadyPointer Stabilizes Your Laser Pointer]]> Not everyone can get in front of a crowd and be as confident in the crap coming out of their mouths as a Tony Snow or a Steve Jobs. But this SteadyPointer lets you exude a cool confidence in the laser- pointing part of your presentation by stabilizing your jittery hand, which is almost as good. So you could in fact be shaking like someone injected caffeine straight into your eyeball, but nobody would be the wiser.

From the video demos, it actually looks like this thing works.

<![CDATA[Star Wars 30th Anniversary Merch Strikes Back]]> If you're reading this, you're probably not one of those lucky bastards who got in to Star Wars Celebration IV. Well, to make you even more green with envy, I just found the catalog of stuff you can only buy if you're there. The magnets shown above are pretty sweet, part of a series of souvenirs and clothes done in that style. Follow the jump if the name Ralph McQuarrie means anything to you, and to see what else is making George Lucas richer than Croesus.

McQuarrie_SW_Figures.jpg
True fans will recognize the above action figures immediately. They are based on the Fritz Lang-inspired original Star Wars concept art by Ralph McQuarrie. You can read more in the text above, but suffice it to say, I'm glad that guy is finally getting some recognition: nearly every one of his original drawings was revamped by someone else before shooting began.

Next up are the exclusive gadgets; which are a little underwhelming. I like the idea of a mechanical pen with both blue and red beams, but what would be really cool is if they were both lasers. Optics geeks, let me ask you: How far off are we from having true blue lasers in laser pointers? Or are we stuck with blue LEDs for reasons of health, energy or Sony-hoarding? And is that collectible frame superlame? Or am I missing something?

In case you want to see what else will be popping up on eBay in the days to come, you can download a very large (nearly 30MB) PDF at the page made for the open-24-hours-but-not-for-you Celebration Store. If you don't want to blow your inheritance on a collectible hoodie, there are always commemorative stamps. The US Postal Service's Star Wars 30th Anniversary stamps winner will be announced tomorrow. Yoda or Darth Vader? I vote Darth, to remind recipients of my snailmail correspondence that they should never, under any circumstances, underestimate the power of the Dark Side.

<![CDATA[Time Projecting Laser Pointer]]> We recently groaned at the misnamed Laser Clock, wishing for a device that could actually project the time of day a half mile away, and now our wish has been granted. This business end of this 650nm red laser pointer projects the time fo' reals, and also has a ballpoint pen on the other side.

Running on a couple of button cell batteries, we're not exactly sure how practical this is or even if it can actually project the time a half mile, but it still looks like fun, and it's a hell of a lot better than that "laser" clock that can only project an image about 18 inches away.

<![CDATA[PCPAL 3-in-1 Mouse/ Remote/Laser Pointer]]> The folks at Vavolo claim to have the ultimate mouse/presentation device in their PCPAL 3-in-1 mouse, but we're not too sure. First off, this device is touted as a combination mouse, remote control, keyboard and laser presenter but last time we counted that added up to four features. Also, their excessive use of exclamation points in their description doesn't inspire much confidence. But, if it does work well it could be convenient little gadget. Featuring a wireless laser pointer presenter, PC remote control, wireless mouse and remote controls function with a PCMCIA interface, this could be a handy tool for presentations, meetings, etc. But we're still trying to figure out how it's a keyboard too.

<![CDATA[Laser Pointer + Thermometer Mouse]]>

We can see how you might want a laser pointer in the mouse you use with your laptop (less peripherals to lose between meetings), and vaguely understand why you might want a long retractable USB cord (too cheap to spring for Bluetooth), but a built-in thermometer? What? We can't stand behind that.
