It's got 1920 x 1200 resolution, and a contrast ratio of 850:1 and brightness of 300 cd/m2. Rather like their previous 19-incher, the Eizo uses Color Universal Design (CUD) technology, which uses different color schemes and shapes to enable the daltonic to distinguish between colors. Input comes from a pair of HDCP-enabled DVI jacks, and there are a couple of USB 2.0 ports. The Flexscan SX2461W-U, costs 136,000, or $1,257 and comes out on December 6. [Cudo and Akihabara News]

<![CDATA[Modding an LCD Monitor the Steampunk Way]]>

If you've got a fever for all things steampunk, as we seem to have had recently, then you might want to know how to turn a $300 Dell LCD monitor into something more, ahem, classy, with its brass and marble trim. Châpeau to that man for all his hard work, but in a funny way it almost makes me nostalgic for plastic.

<![CDATA[Crippled LCD Monitor Gets Executed with a BB Gun]]> What do you do when you have a broken LCD monitor on your hands? If you're responsible, you'll take it somewhere and get it recycled. If you're irresponsible, you'll just chuck it in the trash. And if you're kind of unbalanced, you'll go to town on it with a BB gun, presumably chucking it in the trash soon after.

<![CDATA[LG Emotional Series Monitors]]>

Reading the press release for the LG Emotional series monitor is like getting a massage and being licked by kittens at the same time. Monitor specifications be damned, LG loves me and wants to provide relief from everyday hassles of long hours of computer use. They accomplish this through the Feng Shui of flatscreen LCD monitor design, luxurious glossy finishing and three (count em: three!) types of stands. This sort of pure unadulterated marketing hype should incorporate a picture of a windblown Fabio instead of a picture of the monitor.

<![CDATA[BenQ FP93V LCD Monitor]]> Mac users will like the 19-inch BenQ FP93V LCD Monitor, a 1280x1024 display that supports Mac standard color, has a nice Mac-matching design, and is plenty fast, too, with an 8ms response time. It also features both DSub and DVI inputs and has convenient wire management holders in the back. Notice the square area on the base, a perfect landing pad for a Mac mini. The monitor can tilt from -5 degrees to 20 degrees, but just like Apple s HD Cinema displays, it can't swivel. But so what? It's such an appealing piece of eye candy we ll spot it one fault. Now being shipped to Korea and Europe, it's $394.

<![CDATA[Viewsonic's 1 Millisecond Response LCD]]> Viewsonic has announced a new technology that will allow a one millisecond response time in its LCD monitors. The technology will be in the company's new line of monitors debuting later in the year. They'll also include the Viewsonic OverDrive chip, reported to "speed up the PC in which it is used," which makes absolutely no sense to us. There's currently no way to offload gaming-quality graphics processing to an external device.

<![CDATA[Ben Q Ultrafast LCD Monitor]]> Ben Q comes out of the gate hard with a 19-inch LCD monitor with a super quick 2ms gray-to-gray (GTG) response time. The FP93G X, as well as being nice and fast, is also quite attractive with a slim bezel and a high contrast ratio of 700:1. Ben Q is claiming the monitor as the first of its kind with this response time and hopes hardcore computer gamers will be foaming at the mouth for it. Using what's called Advanced Motion Accelerator (AMA) technology to increase the voltage and speed up the liquid crystal, it seems you'll get performance close to a CRT monitor. And you'll be happy to know that the FP93G X is both PC and Mac compatible. Goes for $429.

<![CDATA[Fastest LCD Monitor-Is Anyone Listening?]]>

Since everything in this business seems to be about the biggest, smallest, quickest, slowest, it's no wonder Viewsonic has now announced the "world's fastest monitor." If anyone cares, the new 19-inch, 2ms VX922 LCD monitor has a native resolution of 1280x1024, contrast ratio of 650:1 and brightness of 270 nits. Of course, only China will get the fastest monitor in the east, so don't hold your breath. Costs about $521.
