The only thing missing is HDMI, but in this package, that's everything you can get in Apple's notoriously overpriced displays and more for less than half the 24-inch LED Cinema's $900 price tag, albeit without the built-in webcam or speakers. Release has no size, but we are assuming 23-inches here from the model designation.

Samsung Launches Super-Thin LED Monitor as Part of Its “Touch of Color” Family for Optimal Viewing

The P2370L is a High-End Display Delivering More Vibrant Color and Eco-Friendly Features in an Ultra-Thin, 16.5mm Footprint
2009 International CES

LAS VEGAS—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, the number one monitor brand in the world, announced today the addition of a super-thin LED monitor to its “Touch of Color” (ToC™) family – the P2370L. This new high-end, model has a Light Emitting Diode Back Light Unit (LED BLU), instead of the cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) found in standard LCD displays, and reproduces more vibrant color and higher contrast ratios than other monitors. With its sophistication-meets-high technology form factor, the P2370L display will ship in late first quarter with an MSRP of $399.

The monitor’s ToC design technology has an ultra-thin wrapper of just 16.5mm (0.65-inches) and is a great fit for any home or office environment, helping to maximize desktop real estate and minimize its physical and carbon footprint reduced. Key eco-friendly benefits of the P2370L model include LED fluorescent lamps that do not contain harmful elements such as mercury or lead, consumption of 30% less energy and a longer life than a standard CCFL backlit unit. In addition, the ToC manufacturing process eliminates harmful paints and sprays to enhance the recyclability of the entire monitor.

“As one would expect from Samsung, the P2370L represents the pinnacle of premium display craftsmanship as a high-end monitor that is sophisticated in not only appearance, but in the quality and performance it offers and in how it impacts the environment,” said R.A Atanus, Vice President of Product Marketing at Samsung Electronics’ Information Technology Division. “This monitor is truly a leadership product that will further solidify Samsung’s position as the foremost authority in the design, engineering and performance of displays worldwide.”

The P2370L uses white LEDs and has a ultra-high contrast ratio of 2M:1. The monitor also has an ultra fast 2ms (GTG) video response time and offers a 1080p full-HD experience.

The P2370L display’s transparent, crystal-like, bezel frame has blue gradation that gives it a glass-like appearance, and helps to reduce the reflection of light to decrease glare. The model also has a unique glass stand neck that gives the illusion that the monitor is floating. It is also equipped with Samsung’s dual-injection technology that lends it a smooth, finished appearance without any screws or joints.

The P2370L is designed so that there are no obtrusive buttons on the front or sides on the panel. Instead, each display features Samsung’s unique Startlight Touch Controls which integrate the On Screen Display (OSD) buttons into the bezel for a seamless look and feel.

<![CDATA[Hands On With the 24-inch Apple Cinema Display]]> The latest 24-inch Cinema Displays now look like the the iMacs (and by extension, the latest MacBook and MacBook Pros) with a glossy black front and a silver back. The glass display looks great, but the cool innovation is the three-prong connector that we talked about during the liveblog. One goes to the MagSafe, one goes to USB and one goes to the Mini Display Port. $899 is a bit more than other comparable 24-inch displays, but nothing else comes bundled with that MagSafe. Aesthetically, it's the only one that matches with the design features of your MB or MBP, so if that's important to you, you've got a new monitor.

<![CDATA[LG Bumping All LCD Monitors Fabbed After Sept. 1 to 5000:1 Contrast Ratio]]> LG's contrasting up all of its LCD monitors produced after Sept. 1, pushing them all to a contrast ratio of 5000:1. They're all sporting some proprietary tech dubbed "Digital Fine Contrast" that supposedly "dynamically controls controls brightness." Flagshipping the 5000:1 contrast goodness are two new monitors: the L227WT (pictured because it's the sexier of the two) and L206WU.

The 22-inch L227WT is being targeted at gamers and graphic designers, with LG claiming it can reproduce 100% of the NTSC color spectrum using its f-Engine, the "world's first" color enhancement processor. It also has a 2ms response time. No price yet, but It'll be available in November.

L206WU.jpgThe 20-inch widescreen L206WU lets you connect up to six monitors at once via USB without needing an extra graphics card. It also comes with DVI-D and D-Sub connectivity and it too has a 2ms response time. No price either, but it'll be out in October.

<![CDATA[Asus Announces Line of 2ms, HDCP-Equipped LCD Monitors]]> Asus showed off its latest group of LCD monitors, and these 20" (MW201U) and 22" (MW221U, pictured above) displays are more versatile than most, equipped with HDCP so you can watch that DRM-ridden video content of which you are so fond in all its full-rez HD goodness.

Helping that along is 1680x1050 resolution, bringing you all that HD glory in a not-quite-fitting 16:10 aspect ratio. One of the 20-inch LCDs, the PW201, even includes an integrated 1.3-megapixel webcam. Gamers will like all of the monitors' 2ms response time, too.

If Asus can keep its prices down, these just might be an appealing bunch of flat panels.

<![CDATA[Asustek PW201 20.1-Inch LCD with Webcam]]> The Asustek PW201 does a purely logical thing, following Apple's lead and placing a 1.3- megapixel webcam right in the top/middle of the bezel surrounding its 20.1-inch LCD. The PW201's spec list isn't too shabby, either, with 1680x1050 resolution, 800:1 contrast ratio and 300 nits of brightness. It has a full complement of inputs including component, S-Video, composite, DVI-D and D-SUB, and it even has in-a-pinch audio facilities with a couple of 3-watt speakers built in along with a headphone jack.

Asus isn't saying when we'll see this baby or how much it will cost, but we're hoping the company's idea of placing a webcam front-and-center will set a trend.

<![CDATA[Quake, Coming Soon to 24 Screens Near You]]> Just how great is Linux? When you take into account that one intrepid guy played Quake 3 across 24 Linux-powered monitors, you too will soon be worshiping the penguin. The whole setup is driven by 12 Linux servers (that s two monitors per server) and runs the game at 10240x3072 resolution, pumping out 15-30 FPS. Minor graphic details like some lighting effects had to be sacrificed, but otherwise it s all systems go. How much user neck strain can be expected is still unknown.

<![CDATA[New Samsung LCDs Borrow From Mac Design]]>

Kids, you must realize something: Unprotected LCD sex can change your future and affect your design. It seems Samsung and Apple had a late-night romp and nine months later, Samsung pops out this LCD display design. The SM770P is a 17-inch screen while the SM970P is a 19-inch display. These LCDs have a few more features than an Apple Cinema Display, though. Full rotation options are available thanks to a triple-hinge design, cables are neatly hidden, no buttons are available aside from one that glows on the base of the monitor, and then there are those contrast ratios of 1500:1 and 1000:1. Totally sweet. They won't break the bank too much, either, at $445 and $635.

<![CDATA[Eye Protecting LCD Monitors]]> prestigio.gifThis one goes out to all of the cubicle warriors out there right now. Day in and day out you are forced to sit and stare at a monitor doing the same thing every day. Well those monitors the company supplied you with aren t exactly working out best towards your health. There is a little thing called Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) and that is what is messing up your eyes after staring at the computer screen all day. Well Prestigio Technology has released one 19-inch and two 17-inch monitors that feature a superior design with a tinted-glass screen coating that prevents any symptoms of CVS occurring. It might be a good idea to not inform the bosses about this, because there could be a potential lawsuit in the future.
