I just want to say thanks to BLAM and the rest of the Giz team for putting this up. I think it might even make a nice weekly or semi-weekly feature. After a grueling week it was cool to let off some steam for a while Friday afternoon and just go bat-shit crazy here. Even if it gets deleted later it's some good, free therapy... :)

Plasma's for the discreet movie viewer.

LCD's for everyone else!

(LED-backlit LCDs are good. But when they have discreet LEDs (RGB) per pixel, then we are talking...)

Neith´r are green friendly (production, disposal, energy use...though LCD uses less power than same size plasma and if an LCD loses it backlight, you can replace it and its useful again...)

CRT bitches! If I don't feel like my skull is being irradiated it isn't a real television. If you're watching so much TV or playing so many goddamn video games that you're burning in your Plasma or CRT you need to shut the fucking thing off, go outside and get a god damned life. Yes, that's right, step out into that big big blue room with the angry orange orb, and suck it up on that 3 block walk to the convenience store for more Funyuns and a few 40's of Old E or Colt 45.

Also, if you can easily store your remote collection in your fat rolls, you really shouldn't be allowed to own a damn TV regardless of what it's made unless that fucker is powered by a treadmill that only works if someone of your weight is on it. (No cheating and tying the dog to it.)

A friend has a 50 something inch plasma. He asked me to help him hang it on the wall. The Plasma weighed a ton. I mounted my 32" LCD by myself.

Based on this highly scientific experiment,

I vote LCD.

@conception: That's a pretty weak analogy, the only advantage plasma has is black level, and very few plasma tvs use that tech to its fullest (i.e. Kuro), run of the mill plasmas have nothing over LCD (except higher power usage, shorter effective life span, higher probability of burn-in, etc.).

But I will cede the point that the name "Plasma" is a LOT cooler than either "LCD" or "Liquid Crystal Display".

@bpapa9013: Ohhh really? You mean how even the nicest LCDs can compare to even the cheapest plasma in terms of speed? Every plasma is 480Hz right now and even the best LCDs are around 240Hz. Most the shit LCDs that people buy are 60Hz and fucking Vizios. Pioneer and Panasonics are the best TVs out on the market. And shit you can get a Panasonic for almost dirt cheep (in terms of TVs... not real dollars) these days.

Better black levels, faster refresh, no freaking weird movie speed up, same panel life and no burn in. And for the most part they are cheep if not cheaper then the average Samsung LCD. People are really only buying LCDs because of the of the misgivings of earlier plasma technology and because their brother's friend's sister's boyfriend's fucking dog told them too.
