There is no question that Stephen Colbert is a J.R.R. Tolkien superfan. After all, it's the reason Peter Jackson gave Colbert a cameo in The Desolation of Smaug. And he's bidding farewell to Jackson's Hobbit films by dressing up as the characters.
This week, Ian McKellen wrapped his Gandalf scenes for the Hobbit films, ending a 14-year journey with the character. Orlando Bloom also wrapped Legolas, and gave a wonderfully silly goodbye.
We have yet to see Evangeline Lilly in her full regalia as the elf Tauriel, a character invented for Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Hobbit, but a Tauriel action figure has been spotted, along with a very tiny photo of Lilly as Tauriel. Plus, we get to see the toy version of a goblin with his spiky-haired warg.
Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis are allegedly in talks to appear in The Hobbit. How is it McKellen and Serkis haven't locked this down already? The only Gandalf and Gollum we want are the originals. [Deadline]
