There's a huge liquidation sale going on this weekend at the Meadowlands. They've been advertising for it all week. Based on products they mention in the ad I'm wondering if it's remaining CC merchandise...
I actually liked the store near where I live. Their store employees were fairly non-existent so I wouldn't get hassled when I went in there. It was nice and quiet with it's lack of customers.
Though truthfully, I did get a few price-match deals through both Best Buy and CC everyonce in a while
@SrsRevo17: It sucks when you actually need the employees for something though. The last time I was at Circuit City, I wanted to buy a blue tooth head set that was in the glass case. There were two more people who wanted to buy the same thing. We asked an employee to get it out of the case, but he disappeared and never came back. Wtf? That was a bunch of lost sales right there. This sort of service is unacceptable. I never went back.
My local store is pretty much toast. I stopped by yesterday and aside from the 20 million USB-A to USB-B for still way too high of a price, there was 3 LCD TV's and a couple hundred spanish music CD's. I did manage to pick up a "For Dummies" book on DSLR's/Digital Photography for 3 bucks though.
I hated Circuit City for their poor service, and terrible prices...
But I feel sorry for those who are now going to be out of a job, as some of them I am quite sure tried their best. Especially since this economy is getting real bad, I hope they find a new job shortly...
I'm kinda worried now that Best Buy no longer has a direct competitor, now they can be free to jack up prices if they so choose. I know alot of people would take their business online, but there are those of us that would still rather shop locally... I personally love to shop online, but I also love having a choice to shop locally to...
@SegamanXero: I agree with your sentiment. I hate to see anyone lose their job, but I had to chuckle that your assessment of Circuit City's employees is that "some of them I am quite sure tried their best."
@SegamanXero: "Best Buy no longer has a direct competitor, now they can be free to jack up prices if they so choose." Ever heard of Ultimate Electronics?
@SrsRevo17: Ive heard good things of frys, but I havent seen a frys localy
@elementary: yea, some of the people who worked their tried their best with the little knowledge they had. Its the execs fault for firing people who where knowledgeable and hired lower paid replacements which didn't know jack shyte.... I think that was the first nail in CC's coffin actually...
@SrsRevo17: I live in a big city, specifically Boston MA, pretty big city... not as big as NYC though...
but yea here we don't have Fry's, J&R, or Ultimate Electronics.
We had CompUSA at one point (in a far off location in Cambridge, and we have BestBuy, CEX (landmark store of this British second hand electronics store was here), and we HAD Circuit City...
One side of coin: You didn't see this coming? You work for dirt? What did you expect, to become a director? Your work for a greedy, electronics reseller that only cares about profit margins and selling profitable junk to ill-informed masses.
Other side of coin: It does suck to lose a job, especially one that you actually worked hard at, followed the rules, and truly wanted to help customers. Worse, you feel indignant and raped. Why? Why did this happen?
I work at Circuit City. I think the author's biggest problem, as well as mine is; people wouldn't shop with us a month or two ago when we needed it. But, people can't seem to hand their money over fast enough to the liquidator's jacked up prices. We have been so busy at my store since we announced we were going under and the prices SUCK! But, stupid people still come in droves to buy DVDs at 20% off. WOW, Brilliant!
And don't even get me started on how many TVs we sell. We had people all over us when we had 10% off signs hanging on all the TVs. Our prices were typically 25%-35% off during our normal, weekly sales, but nobody came to buy then. This is why most Circuit City employees are mad. People wouldn't shop a month ago for good prices, but now they come for terrible prices.
@Joe Flynn: A month ago your prices were still higher than your competition. Not your fault personally.
As for this: "people wouldn't shop with us a month or two ago when we needed it." Well, that's a laugh. Retail is not a charity. I don't shop at a store because they need the money. I shop at a store because they have the items I want at a price I find desirable. I am not doing a service for you, you are providing a service to me (goods at a reasonable price).
This is all besides the point - I've not seen a Circuit City in the last 3 years that has more than one cashier at a time. Why should I wait 30 minutes in line at CC when I can get in and get out at Best Buy?
