Funny... I was just about to look for a proxy to check out something on Hulu.
I understand why they do it, but it's still stupid anyway. I don't watch commercials on TV right now anyway. Everything's recorded on PVR, and we skip through the commercials.
Seriously people, I doubt it's the people at Hulu that came up with this idea. It's most likely the content providers and our lovely friends at the MPAA that insisted they do this, and I don't blame them for complying.
Content Provider = Canadian Cable and Satellite companies and TV stations then yeah. That's exactly it. They have rights to the content in Canada, so they don't want it available elsewhere.
Even though I watch NBC TV that's timeshifted from US Stations on shaw, I still can't watch shows on HULU because CTV doesn't want me to. STUPID.
@dragon:ONE: Let me get this straight. You get both Hulu and BBC and you have an IP that doesn't show where exactly you're broadcasting from. I fail to see your problem. Did TWC just come and take your firstborn for what they're doing or did you miss that part of your contract, or something else?
More torrenting of your USA TV Programming from this Canadian. Yeah that's right, I'm a Canadian pirate. That's right we showed up on your list of pirate nations to watch and I'm damn proud of it.
What's that? Oh it was software that was on the watch? Oh.. I buy all my software.. Looks like I dodged that bear trap, eh?
@hanswurst0815: At least thing before you open your mouth. Hulu is a great service that is operating within the laws and trying to appease the content providers and advertisers. That being said, international copyrights and distribution rights might be owned by a third party or it just wasn't part of the original deal.
Last is the simple fact that Hulu has to grow as a business and does not have the servers to provide 6 billion people with streaming shows.
Yep. Hulu sucks. They have valid reasons for what they're doing, but ultimately it makes them worse than absolutely useless to me. Now I go to watch videos that would have been posted on another streaming site, but now I hit a dead end, and there isn't always an alternative.
That said, I buy DVDs of TV shows I want to see more of, but for the most part, all Hulu does is whet the appetite for material that's easily pirated, and then deny a chance to get it through legitimate channels.

... on Time Warner Cable's Roadrunner.
The geolocated result for my IP was "US", but no city or anything, unlike my old IP which located to my city.
WTF TWC?
