M.A.D. Gamepad Features Tiny, Detachable Steering Wheel

The M.A.D. Gamepad is a mini USB gamepad that features an even minier steering wheel. We're not sure it's the most practical, ergonomic gamepad we've ever seen, but we sure admire the effort and, we'll be honest, the ludicrousness. Here's what just the wheel looks like: More »

Dell Offering XBox 360 Elite Bundle With XPS M1730 Laptop Build

If you are one of the very few people on this planet who are simultaneously shopping for a $3000 gaming laptop and an Xbox 360—today is your lucky day. Dell is throwing an Elite bundle into their top-of-the-line XPS M1730 system until July 24th. While it is not completely free, it is definitely going to save you some money vs. buying the two items separately. So, even if you are a die-hard PC gamer, you could probably turn the Elite bundle for a profit. [Dell]

Meizu M8 iClone Finally Coming in August?

Meizu will finally release the iPhone-wannabe M8 in August, according to a cryptic message board post by CEO Jack Wong. The first version will have 128MB RAM and an unspecified amount of storage, and a second version should ship in October with 256MB RAM and 8GB on-board flash. The funniest part? The M8 will cost around $320, or $120 more than the AT&T subsidized 8GB iPhone 3G here in the US of A. Luckily for them (and us) this probably won't see its way outside of China. Russian Ravers Blinded By Best (and Last) Laser Show They'll Ever See

Another reason I'm glad I was never a rave kiddie whenever it was trendy in the US: Trippy lasers beamed into your eyes will blind you. A gaggle of Russian ravers at the July 5 Aquamarine Open Air Festival discovered this after tents erected to deflect heavy rains partially refracted lasers intended for skyward illumination into their eyes, resulting in nastiness: "Retinal burns, scarring is visible on them. Loss of vision in individual cases is as high as 80 percent, and regaining it is already impossible." Ouch. Strangely, this makes me want to watch Go. [Reuters via Geekologie]

Samsung M3510 Music Cellphone to Have Shake, Tilt Control

Some information has leaked out about Samsung's upcoming M3510 music-player cellphone, and it looks like it'll have some accelerometer-driven control built-in. A bit like the ShakeSMS app for Nokia phones and the Sansa Shake MP3 player, the M3510 will let you shake it in different directions and turn it around to control the music player and other apps. Other than that it's a 0.39-inch deep candybar, with 2-inch screen, 2-megapixel camera and FM radio, and it'll cost somewhere between $310 and $390 when it's released. [Unwiredview]

Giz Service Announcement: Fireworks + Indoors = Bad Idea

If you're anything like us, you're probably deep into your 12th beer by now. You may think that now's the perfect time to test some of those firecrackers in your kitchen. Well, don't, or you may end up like this guy and his house, both blasted to smithereens by some lousy M-1000s. Take it from us and the Consumer Product Safety Commission and have a happy 4th everybody! [CPSC]

Giz Service Announcement: Fireworks and Watermelon Don't Mix

Hey, we here at Gizmodo, together with Nancy Nord of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, want to remind you to have a safe 4th of July. Don't use illegal fireworks for anything dangerous. Like blowing up an M-1000 inside of a watermelon. In slow motion. Happy 4th weekend everybody. [CPSC]

Lots of Nvidia Laptop Graphics Cards Are Overheating, Dying

Apparently some previous-gen Nvidia graphics cards that shipped in "significant quantities" of notebooks are defective, built and packaged with "weak" materials that are leading to them to overheat and fail at a "higher-than-normal" rate. Enough are bad that Nvidia is taking a $150-$200 million hit on its earnings for the quarter. Do you have one of these cards? More »

Super Creepy Snow Globes are Filled With Death, Not Cheer

When I think of snow globes, images of pleasant Christmas settings usually come to mind. Even now, on a hot summer's day, the thought is kind of refreshing. However, it seems that artists Walter Martin and Paloma Munoz must have had a traumatic incident involving snow globes, because the imagery they have created in their Travelers series is just a tad on the disturbing side. Hit the following gallery to see what I mean. If you want go a step further and actually purchase one, they can be had for $750 apiece. [Project Page via Inventor's Spot via DVICE]

Insider Vid Shows WowWee Femisapien Fembot Knows All the Moves

The Sega E.M.A. fembot we showed you on the weekend is really the WowWee Femisapien, and WowWee has just popped up a couple of "insider videos" of it in action. They show the cleverer parts of the tech, and get Femisapien doing a little swashbuckling: though the two 'bots are just going through a set of scripted moves, the end result fencing match is impressive. In the second video, WowWee inventor Mark Tilden shows exactly how smart Femisapien is at learning moves as you pose it. More »

Sega's E.M.A. Robot Is a Brazen Minx, Has a Glamorous Body, Also Kind of a Slut

We've seen midget-sized female robots coming out of Japan for a little while, but Sega Toys' Eternal, Maiden, Actualization (E.M.A.) robot seems like the most fully featured one yet. Or at least the sluttiest. The bot is 38 cm tall, has a "glamorous body," can hand out business cards, walk "like a lady," and even kiss you when you stick your face close enough to hers. Sega's marketing this toward adults (obviously) and will charge $175 each. Not too bad, actually, considering a few months with this and the confidence builder DVD, you'll be able to know what it feels like to be a socially awkward Japanese teenager. M21 Flat Panel has Mid-Century Roots with 21st Century Tech

Over the weekend at the Dwell on Design show in Los Angeles, Designer Joe Wilkerson displayed his newest furniture creation, the M21 Flat Panel. The name might not be that telling, but this beauty is a mid-century themed console that houses a 42" plasma screen. Apparently this updated retro-console was attracting a lot of attention at the show. And why not, the M21 Flat Panel combines the oh so trendy mid-century modern design with 21st century tech. Nvidia GeForce 9M GPUs 40 Percent Faster Than Last Gen, Bring Hybrid SLI to Notebooks

And now for the real Nvidia meat this week: The GeForce 9M series. Besides promising 40 percent faster performance than its last gen of notebook graphics cards (8M if you're keeping score), the 9M series brings Hybrid SLI to notebooks for the first time—the high performance GPU kicks in when needed, or it drops to the low-power one when things are chill. They go from the budget 9100M G to the top o' the line 9650M GT (which delivers 132 gigaflops), though they all support Blu-ray 2.0 spec (with 1080p output and PureVideo HD processing), PhysX, HDMI 1.3, DisplayPort 1.1 and mo'. You'll be seeing these puppies in "over a hundred notebook models beginning this summer." More »
