It may be a MacBook Mini concept. Or a crazy leak. Or just a perfect fake. Whatever. It's beautiful. I want. [Updated with pictures].

According to a 9to5 reader, this perfect rendering, photoshop, or whatever the hell it is came inside a Russian magazine. My knowledge of Russian doesn't go beyond "hey, wanna dance?", "cheers," and "you have beautiful blue eyes, let's go back to mine" so I don't have a clue about what this page is saying. If you speak the language of Dostoyevsky, drop me a line because I want to know.

Whatever they claim it is, I don't care. It just looks too good and perfect to be true—which is why I want it to be real: It's exactly as I can imagine it will be. And with the perfect, dream technical specs to boot:

• 10.4" WXGA display.
• 1280 x 768 pixel with LED backlighting.
• NVIDIA MCP79
• Intel Atom Z740 1.83GHz with 1MB L2 cache.
• 2GB DDR3-800.
• NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
• 64GB Solid State Drive.
• Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n
• 1 x USB 2.0
• 1 x Mini Display Port
• Battery Li-Ion 5100mA

Update: Added comparison shot with a Mac Book Air

According to them, it will come sometime in 2009 for $899. You know, delivered to your door by ten flying Russian mail order brides, all of them virgin. Or something like that. [9to5]

<![CDATA[The Apple Netbook, if Designed by Sony [Concepts]]]> Yes, this MacBook Mini concept by designer Isamu Sanada looks a lot like Sony's Vaio P. But as I'm sure Sanada will tell you, its tri-fold style is pure brochure, baby.

Featuring a 10-inch extra wide screen and a folding (detaching?) style, the MacBook Mini offers users both a keyboard and a trackpad—simultaneously if desired.

And while it all makes for pretty pictures, the idea of various optional components a la Bug Labs is so anti Apple design philosophy (at least as we see in the compact designs of the iPhone or even MacBook Air) that the renders aren't good for much more than a chuckle. Oh, and then there's the point of that trackpad being completely useless should you make the screen touch-compatible (really, 30% of this design should go to a mouse?).

But censor the image in your mind for a moment. As a folding iPod Touch XL with optional QWERTY, it definitely has my interest piqued. [TechEBlog via bbGadgets]

<![CDATA[Caption Contest: Wishful Thinking [Apple]]]> "If you think my one-of-a-kind MacBook Mini is great, then you should really see my custom Porsche. It's really just a wheelbarrow, but I've got like four or five Apple stickers on that puppy." [Thanks OMG Ponies!]

<![CDATA[MSI Wind Modded Into a 'MacBook Mini' Using LEDs, Tin Foil [Fakes]]]> Ohmigod, it's a MacBook Mini! Oh, wait, no it's not. It's a cheap MSI Wind clone with a fake Mac backing on it, put together with dremel, six white LEDs, tape and aluminum foil. Impressive, but not quite what people have been waiting for. But hey, nice work nonetheless! I'm sure it works to fool people in coffee shops. [Gadget Lab]

<![CDATA[AppleInsider Says Apple Ultra-Portable 13" Laptop at Macworld [Unconfirmed]]]> We've heard rumblings about that ultra-portable 13-inch notebook on its way from Apple for a while now, but now AppleInsider says it'll finally be rolled out at the MacWorld Expo and Conference in the middle of January. Because an optical disc will be reportedly omitted from the design, the new Mac book will be 50% lighter than the 15-inch MacBook Pro, putting it at a featherweight 3.4 pounds with battery. If AppleInsider's assertions are true, there are a lot more sweet features on the way, too.

Keeping size, weight and power requirements down will be an onboard NAND flash drive instead of a spinning hard disk, which will hopefully result in instantaneous boot times. How small will this laptop be? Take a look at our Sizemodo that will give you a rough estimate. Apple is also said to be including a 13-inch LCD display in the notebook, with LED backlighting, further reducing power requirements. These features have been avoided in lots of other notebooks because of their high price, so the big question here is, will Apple be able to deliver this product at an affordable price? We may have to wait until January 15th to find out for sure. [Apple Insider]

<![CDATA[MacScoop's "trusted sources" claim that Apple's... [Rumor]]]> MacScoop's "trusted sources" claim that Apple's upcoming ultra-portable is due out by the end of 2007, have a 12-inch screen, be 0.6-0.7 inches thick, and weigh 3 pounds. None of that is hard to believe, but we're still asking, what about an optical drive? [MacScoop]

<![CDATA[MacBook Mini Pushed Back to 2008? [MacBook Mini Rumors]]]> apple_macbook_mini.jpg It was never confirmed by Apple, but the folks at AppleInsider are reporting that Apple's ultraportable MacBook Mini won't see the light of day till late this year or possibly next. The reason? Apparently Leopard's delay will also affect the MacBook Mini because the flash-based ultraportable will rely on software support from Leopard for managing its onboard NAND flash memory. New rumors also suggest the notebook will lack an optical drive, which I hope isn't true.
