Other laptop manufacturers: It can boot from the SD card, who gives a sh*t?

Apple: EXTREMELY NEAT TRICK!!!!

Why has this become an extremely neat trick when Apple does it, yet goes unnoticed with other (many other) laptop manufacturers?

Way-ta-go Apple! Welcome to the world of yesterday.. yet again.

Won't support SDXC?? So what..? Apple programmers are lazy and don't want to make a minor driver update? Oh no wait.. that's right, it'll be a "new feature" on the next MBP.

Why is Apple always years behind everyone with their computers, yet taking the lead in phones/pmps in the US market? I say US, because the Iphone is a joke compared to what is available abroad.

Phone companies like Nokia have come out saying their phones abroad are a lot more sophisticated than in the states, the issue of bringing them here is Americans wouldn't use half the features because they wouldn't take the time to learn how to. If you want to pass off our blatent ignorance as poor software design then do so.

Hey all, I have a MBP 2008, I do have an SD card reader for the Express Card slot and a 16GB SD Card, anyone know if I could boot from this? Any hacks etc. to get it to work, or only on the NEW MBPs?

@OMGOBGYN: That depends on the Express card. Not all are capable of being used to boot off of, so you'd have to check for your specific model.

How can this be thoughtof as a an "extremely cool trick" when its extremely behind the times. My old Acer could do this too and its a few years old. I didn't mention that because that would be rubbing it in their faces.

@dingus: My mom threw out my Commodore 64 and both my C64 disk drives too. And all of my tabletop arcade games and Tiger handhelds.

That crap was going to be my legacy to my heirs. Well, Junior's not getting the TurboGrafx 16 or the Sega Master System. Thanks a lot, Mom.

@SafetyMachete_GitEmSteveDave: Turbo button, dual 5.25" floppy drives, a monochrome (green) display, and DOS 5 and Windows 3.11 for Workgroups pre-installed are requirements for my next MacBook. There should be an VGA port for an external monitor or, failing that, an RCA port for video. I have the RF switcher box from my Atari still hooked up to my 13" B&W Zenith TV.

Also, I want to be able to boot into C64 mode to run GEOS because all of my document files are in GEOS-Write format. And I want HyperCard, which I use for presentations. I also require a PS2 serial port for my mouse. And if they can't build a 9600 baud modem in then they should maek sure to be have a cartridge slot to plug in my modem which is a fancy one from USRobotics. Also, the modem need to be Hayes-compatible because the BBS i go on isn't too new.

Macintosh, please to be shipping some CinemaWare games because I like "Defender of the Crown". I saw it on my buddy's Amiga last month and teh graphics looked cool. I hope that the new MacBook Pros can do those graphics. And VideoToaster. Speaking of toasters, please to put in After Dark 2.0 for MAC.

Does anyone know if the new MacBook Pros are capable of running BASIC?
