He's a friend who I've come to rely on as a sounding board for Apple rumors at 3am or any other obscene time of day, so I'm glad to see him being recognized with a profile in the NYT. <![CDATA[Airport Express Update Spotted at Online Apple Store]]> MacGeneration has spotted a new Airport Express unit listed at the Swiss online Apple Store. The updated router looks identical to the older Airport Express, however, the specification for the refreshed model lists 802.11n wireless network support. The Swiss variety shows a one week ship time and Macrumors is reporting a reliable source informs them of a $99 price point, as well as an ETA of sometime next week for a Stateside release—anyone taking bets for not Tuesday? As before, iTunes streaming, printer and internet sharing should all be thrown in. We'll keep you posted on any midweek confirmation. [Apple Store via MacGeneration via Macrumors]

<![CDATA[Arn's Theory of Apple Rumors]]> Arnold Kim of Macrumors.com generally sticks to the speculative evidence, usually refraining from venturing into wilder guesses. Recently he brought to light an obvious but somehow ignored pattern: 1) Apple Legal never gets involved for Images/Video of Fake Products and 2) Apple Legal always gets involved for Images/Video Real Products. Apple Legal could be the best way to verify leaked images, since they can only C&D property that is theirs. I call the pair Arn's First and Second Law of Apple Rumors. Easy, no?

He backed up his observation with historical -although selective- evidence. There have been times in the past in which Apple hasn't retired images of their intellectual property. Other times, they have retired things which never materialized because it contained Apple's IP. If he's right, we may all have an astoundingly accurate method of determining which leaked images are fake and real. If he's wrong, we wouldn't be surprised either. He timepegs his theory to the recent iMac keyboard, which contrary to popular belief, he thinks is fake.

Whatever happens, our recommendation is that you follow The Giz's Own Theory of General Apple Rumors Relativity: never ever trust rumor sites. Why? For exactly the same reasons you don't trust fortune tellers, astrology experts and goat-entrails readers. [NormalKid]

<![CDATA[Rumor-based Mac Buying Guide Keeps Fanboys Guessing]]> Still wondering whether you should buy that new MacBook or Mac Pro? The gang at MacRumors has compiled the ultimate Mac-buying guide based on product refresh cycles and Internet rumblings.

Take the Mac Pro for instance. MR recommends you skip it cause it's been 234 days since its last refresh. What's 100 percent safe to buy? According to MR, only the Shuffle. Obviously you shouldn't live or die by these rules, but savvy shoppers could save a buck or two if they at least hold off for Leopard.

<![CDATA[iPhone on CNBC: "It will be Appley"]]> Yeah, that quote in the title is direct from CNBC's brilliant analysis on the iPhone.

My other favorite quote: "According to the Internet rumor mill, Apple chief Steve Jobs is expected to unveil the new iPhone at the upcoming Macworld conference..." It's always amusing when lazy reporters...

a. Cite the Internet as a conglomerate source
b. Immediately debunk that source, yet stand by its content

Hit the video about halfway to watch the host Dylan Ratiger be a huge cock to Loop Rumors blogger/founder Bob Ward. "You aren't on the Internet anymore, bitch!" That might not have been the quote verbatim, but close enough. Sorry Bob.
Thanks Ari!
