Okay, I'll do it. I call shenanigans. Things just don't add up. One...he has an Xbox 360, but he also has a 20 year old TV. How do you connect a 360 to RF plugs? Two...Florida cops, okay, where's the patrol video of the incident? They always have video just in case of events like this. Three...he's poor, okay, he has an Arcade system, okay, but 8 games? Come on dude. You can go without Grand Theft Auto: Crime Simulator and Madden '09: Pacman Edition and get yourself a real system.

My verdict: Someone is trying to pull the finger in the Wendy's chili ploy in hopes of getting a payday.

@PopsG: To be fair, drug cases are notorious for allowing illegal searches and seizures to stand up in court.

Also, while in court refusal to search may not constitute guilt, to a cop it's a dead giveaway. If you refuse consent, he'll come up with something he can label "probable cause". He just will. In short, there's no way out.

I've refused search before - the guy asked me like 5 fucking times. It was really annoying. My car is loaded with segway polo equipment, as if that's the new trick cover for transporting drugs at 10am on a sunday.

@nutbastard: And did he end up just leaving it be after you refused consent? Or did he push the issue and come up with a warrant or some mockery of "probable cause"?

I agree that consenting to search is a mistake; if you're dirty, you are just asking for trouble. If you're clean, consenting to search merely reinforces the faulty "if you have nothing to hide you'll have no problem with a search" mentality that cops love. Let them work their assses off for a warrant and then find nothing.

@Rhayader: Unless the officer can state a probable cause (it has to be obvious) then you can always reserve your 4th and refuse search.

@OMG! Ponies!: There's some great restaurants around there. My favs are the rodizio's. Unfortunately, I'm not close to that area. And nothing beats John's Texas Wieners on Branford and Washington. Their chili and cheese fries are to die for.

My friends and I would get tanked on sangria every Friday at lunch. Nothing makes an assignment in Newark more bearable than booze and meat.
