I'm sick of receiving things at little to no cost to myself, and suffering through the heartless injustice of having to watch at a specific time, or see advertisements! I want everything for free, regardless of the cost to produce it and distribute it!

I give up on Media Center. I had really high hopes for it. But other then the occasional streamed show from the internet it doesn't do anything, unless you watch all your TV OTA or setup some hacked together system where some other box is tuning the stations for you.

Cable card support was going to be the saving grace of MC. But then you had to buy a pre-built computer to use cable card. Then they announced that the DirecTV USB plug-in box was being beta tested. That was a year ago and nobody is saying a word about it now.

I've not opened Media Center or choose the Media Center link on the Xbox in about a year now. There's no reason to.

@CaptCaveman: I have the S-video out on my HD satellite box plugged into my PC to be able to record all of my satellite channels. The only drawback is that my hdtv in the same room has to be watching whatever the PC is recording, but I try to time most of my recording for the middle of the night anyway. DirecTV is supposed to be coming out with an HD solution designed to work specifically with Media Center in 2009.

Shows the glaring weakness in Apple's Front Row application. With so much focus on the iTunes store, it gets the short end of the stick with web content, whereas Media Center gets some good bells n' whistles. Granted, with Hulu and Netflix et al being Mac compatible, it's not that big a deal, but being able to access this stuff with the press of the remote would be great.

I'd like to know how many people actually use the application? Personally I've launched the application once to check what it looks like and that's it, way too much hassle to use such fullscreen single-tasking oriented application for normal desktop media playing. And for dedicated media center computer I'd imagine that free Linux based, equally functional solutions are easy to come by. At least I recall toying with one few years back.

@ara: I've used it since 2004. It's a fantastic DVR with the bonus that all recorded media and recording functions can be accessed and controlled from any networked extender device including XBox 360, other extenders and other networked windows PC's.

I was going to start using media center with my xbox, as well as netflix. Is it worthwhile for me to give it a wired connection to my router or will I probably not gain much bandwidth with that?

@jdbaile3: while wired is always better, the amount of improvement is going to depend on what your current wireless type and signal strength is. But streaming video will probably be better no matter what if wired.
